TIL that the bird called "turkey" in the USA is called "Hindi" in Turkey and "Peru" in Hindi and Portuguese.
A turkey is called a Hindi(Indian) in Turkey and is called a Peru in India(Hindi) and in Portuguese.
Geography and etymology just got even more interesting. Thanks to Turkey.
From Wikipedia,
"In Turkish, the bird is called hindi which means "from & related to India."
In Hindi, it is called Peru (पीरू), a borrowing from Portuguese.
In Portuguese and Galician, the word for turkey is peru."

Actually hindi is the official language of India.
Wikipedia's definition that hindi means "from or related to India" is kinda wrong.
But very interesting post. I know some other words that mean something in one language and something totally hilarious in others!
I agree. It's not very accurate. But it's still interesting how same words convey different meanings in different languages. This one caught my attention.
Hillarious!
Absolutely hilarious! Mind blown. Lol
