TIL : Why do we have Hair on our Body?
Human body is very complex biologically and have certain things that we do not need at all. We can have a normal life without eyebrows , male nipples and more. Well, Today I learned about body hair and why do we need it? We all have hairs around our body, it may seem invisible but it is all there. We have five million tiny organs present on our skin producing hair continuously. These tiny organs are also called hair follicles. I discovered that our nostrils are the second most hairy part of our body.
One of the biggest reason of having body hair is that it plays a very important in maintaining the body temperature. In winter season, muscles around the hair follicles causes hair to stand up in order to contain and trap more heat near body. Same goes with goosebumps. The hair in our nostrils, eyelashes keeps dirt away while other body part hair helps to give warmth and maintain energy. Also, The lifespan of the body hair is 6 times shorter than the hair on your head. Body hair have an approximate life span of 6 months and that is why we can’t have long body hair. Mens have significantly higher concentration of hair on their body as compared to women and there are only two places where you don’t have any hair is palms of hand and soles of feet.
Animals have furs that helps them to trap heat near their body and same goes for human hair. According to a research, people had much more concentration of hair on their body then they have today. Can we make a prediction that 1000 years from now, human will have no hair on its body?
