How dangerous are electronic cigarettes?! -TIL
Electronic cigarettes are battery-operated devices that can look either like a real cigarette, either as a pen. There are hundreds of brands, and they are used as a way to achieve the necessary level of nicotine, without experiencing the dangers of cigarettes.
All work the same way: have containers filled with a liquid which is usually made of nicotine, flavorings and other chemicals. A heating device then converts the liquid into vapor that you inhale on when you pull out of it.
Are electronic cigarettes safe?
Most of electronic cigarettes contains chemical nicotine , but is also addictive. When you stop using the electronic cigarette is a risk of developing acute apathy and anxiety. Nicotine is not good for people with heart problems and some recent research demonstrates that can affect arteries seriously enough.
Electronic cigarettes can cause the following problems:
- Harms developing brain of adolescents and could affect memory and attention.
- It affects the developing fetus in pregnant women. Pregnant women should not use any nicotine.
- Some brands contain chemicals, including formaldehyde - often used in building materials - and another ingredient used in antifreeze, which can cause cancer.
- Aromas, raises many problems. Some manufacturers use a chemical that have taste of butter called diacetyl, which is often added to foods like popcorn. When inhaled, it can be dangerous.
Electronic cigarettes are safer than regular cigarettes?
Neal Benowitz, a medical researcher at the University of California said:
Electronic cigarettes are not considered 100% safe, but most experts think are less harmful than regular cigarettes.
Smoking kills nearly half a million people a year in the United States. Most of the damage comes from the thousands of chemicals that are burned and inhaled. Electronic cigarettes do not burn, so people are not as exposed to these toxins.
A review of a study conducted in 2015 estimated that electronic cigarettes are about 95% less harmful than the real ones. Some states and communities that prohibit smoking in public places also prohibit electronic cigarettes.
Warner said that the danger from passive vapor is not zero. He says that it exists, but it is probably very low.
