TIL: An Anti Ram-Raider is also called a BollardsteemCreated with Sketch.

Well, just a slight white lie, as I really learned about this the day before yesterday 😱

I know what these posts are, but what I didn't know is that they are called bollards.

While the original use of the word typically described a post used to moor a ship or a boat, more recently the term "bollard" is used to describe a post used in a traffic-control situation or as a means of discouraging ram-raiding.

In this case these bollards which I saw on a paved portion of the Perkiomen Trail in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania were being employed to thwart cars from driving onto the trail.

Often, and as we see in these photos, the middle bollard is removable to allow road/trail access to sanctioned vehicles (e.g. a park ranger, police, or an ambulance). And it usually contains some kind of locking mechanism to prevent easy removal by "unauthorized individuals."

... I just seen this video yesterday and today I learned it's called a bollard. Thanks for posting. Following for more TIL's!!

Always wondered what those were called, besides things you don't want to run into on your bike. Great post, and I love the bridge photo. Thanks.
