Today I tried the 9DVR Virtual Reality Experience.
There was no way I was walking past this without giving it a try. VR is Here! Or is it?
9DVR
Now, I've been on many simulators before, but never a VR one with goggles. I was curious to see just how far VR had come in the last few years. This system which appears to originate out of China includes a moving capsule in which you sit, a VR headset and a virtual movie of your choice.
THE MOVIES:
There were a selection of different themed movies from 1st person shooter to horror, or in my case a rollercoaster. I chose the "Rollercoaster around the World", as I was interested to see how realistically it could create real landscapes and places in the World, not imaginary ones.
THE VERDICT
After strapping into the egg, I had to remove my glasses to fit the headset. It took my eyes a few moments to adjust and focus on the 3D. Once my eyes had adjusted I found myself sitting on a rollercoaster with the winding track in front of me. The graphics displayed very well in 3D but in no way could you be convinced you were in a virtual world, it still resembled a computer game. As the rollercoaster sped its way past the Sydney Opera House and the Sphinx and various other landmarks I found myself mildly entertained.
The movement of the capsule and the graphics did at times make me forget i was only sat a couple of feet from the floor, and I noticed some younger riders shrieking with glee and fear as if they really were riding a rollercoaster in an amusement park.
After about 2 minutes the ride was over, and that was probably long enough. Once we took off the goggles, both my wife and myself felt a little bit of vertigo and nausea which was quite unpleasant. We hada drink of water and the feeling slowly faded, but I'm note sure I enjoyed the experience enough to make it worth it.
We have the headsets and we watched our daughter(adult i may add) watch a horror on it. Never seen anyone jump so much in my life. Love to try this!
Perhaps I should try the horror film next time. thanks for the tip :)
You're very welcome!
