Tittilating Tibouchinas
The Tibouchina is a small evergreen tree growing up to 5 metres ( 15 feet ) tall. There are several species of Tibouchina, and they mostly have Purple or Blue Flowers. One variety "Kathleen , has Pink flowers, and another variety " Illusion" , has a mixture of Lilac shaded flowers on the one plant. Yet another variety , called "Noeline", has white buds which open to Pink flowers. There are many other great varieties of this plant available in nurseries in Temperate and warmer climates.
The Tibouchina is native to South-East Brazil, where people use the blooms to decorate churches at Easter time. The variety pictured here is Tibouchina " Alstonville", which is one of the best. It is flowering in Sydney at the moment.
