--Shepard Smith, a lonely voice of occasional reason on Fox News, announces that he is quitting the network in the midst of escalating attacks against him from President Donald Trump

Why do you think he quit?

It's such a gloomy moment!

He did always put up the truth and also was definitely the weapon which FOX NEWS could use to defend and say they had diversity and had a healthy amount of debate in their crew but now as he's no more in the team, it could go tough. On the other hand, the contract really seems a bit of odd stuff as he won't be allowed to be at other channels for a while. So let's see what we are gonna see in the coming days..

Unfortunately, non-compete clauses are shocking normal.

He did leave voluntarily even after they asked him to stay.

As I said earlier everything in politics is subjective. As I have never quite viewed Megans departure the same as you, a fiasco. I think it was deliberately set up that way to bring down NBC news, one can not hardly notice it wasn't until she got there that the sex abuse scandals started flooding forth. Even though on election night I watched her in shock and awe that Trump won, making me believe underneath she voted for Hillary, her alliance is still firmly planted in the right wing conservative base. I feel the way it all came down it is highly probable it was set to plant her at NBC news. It was just to much of a fish out of water otherwise, anyone with a brain could see it was doomed for failure. That's exactly the outcome of it too. That only reinforced my initial suspicions. When these things happen they will generally disappear for a bit then you'll see them gradually make their way back....which may explain her appearance on Fox News last night.

Everything being subjective the same could be with Shep. This was just way to easy. Maybe I look to in depth at things but money talks and well, you know the rest. Maybe Bill Barrs meeting was more about finding another plant, Shep would definitely qualify, especially if the price was right. Allegiances can be sold out, even if temporarily.

It is a pity that objective journalism seems to be an impossibility. Both right and left extremes are negative and I just can't understand why that is such a difficult thing for people to understand and fight against. Professional integrity is key in any field and I believe that every professional is the key for companies to do what they tend to do when it comes to political ideology. If every professional respected themselves a bit more, they would just quit every time a company wants to make them do things that go against higher values, such as truth, honesty and justice.
Of course, we know that's not going to happen. They will always be possible to buy conscience and integrity and "fear is free", as they say. Most of the time what prevents people to do the right things is old-fashioned fear, plain and simple, and in most cases we are talking about unfounded/inconsequential fear.

Excellent rebuttal. Truth, honesty and justice are subjective when it comes to politics. Just as many other aspects involved in life, depending upon the circumstances involved one should always weight jumping in the fire if they can't stand the heat.

Truth is subjective? Nice.

Is politics not based on influence that ends up reflecting one's personal opinions? That influence does not make it a truth.

Shep Smith is like that equilibrium or that balance that basically showcases unadulterated reportarge and journalism by all means. It's obvious that he was a mediator and fox news needed him there, I think there's more to him wanting to quit, maybe a threat to his life? A blackmail, or something else. But him quiting might be a proof that altruistic and unbiased reporting might be unachievable anymore

LOL yes!!! The strife!
