Protests against corruption and lack of services begun in Iraq this week. With the proxy war between the US & Iran, it's important to understand what the politics of Iraq looks like post-ISIS.

The protests in Iraq are pretty big, covering the capital Baghdad and Shia Muslim majority areas in the southern province. Iraq is crucial to Iran and its dying economy. Almost certain Ali khamenei and Qasem Soleimani are not going to sleep well tonight. #IraqProtests #Iraq
Protests in Iraq occurred because of high unemployment and high levels of corruption among the government. A lot of financial aid flows to politicians and businessmen while people live in hardship. I think this protest will extend until the Iraqi government falls and is replaced by others. While the United States and Iran will try to exert influence in Iraq.
Not about that. This is a Saudi intervention against Iran in Iraq, black and white.
Saudis funding Shia protests?

These protesters are not innocent, they follow a Shiite leader called Muqtada Sadr. You can say he runs the slums at the outskirts of Baghdad. This guy used to be a patriot and was part of the resistance against the US invasion to his country, a couple of visits to Saudi recently and he flipped180 degrees.
Beside moral religious affect for his own sect, the timings of these movements - unrelated to their alleged demands - are very bad for the Shiite (Shia) sect who have rituals these days where an estimated 3 - 4 millions, most of them come from Iran, march, literally, on a pilgrimage to the tombs of the grandsons of the prophet, a ritual very much not within the Islam faith, but that's another debate.
Imagine those millions are now prevented from their rituals, first the disappointment as for many this is a once a lifetime journey, and the losses to Iraq's economy losing the income from hosting these millions over few days.
Doubled by security risks. Keep in mind that in our region nothing good ever came or will ever come from the US camp.

I figured Sadr was involved. He isn't friendly with the US or Iran, so would Saudis back him and these protests?

That's what I said. BTW this is a very dumb move by the Saudis, as usual of them, they are already hated enough in the region, this just adds more dedicated millions hating them instead of gaining them.

I'm surprised Sadr would side with them.

@chieppa1, Corruption and Agenda Politics divide human beings.
Nowadays people are Awaking and standing against false Politics and Corrupted Governments.
If we see current picture of this world then everywhere we can see Protests against governments.

This protest is really something I basically think it's a no-brainer for me, the Shiite and their leader Muqtada Sadr aren't really so holistic themselves I've heard of their nefarious activities with terrorism too and we both know that these things they claim to be fighting in Iraq can never be stopped by people getting wounded getting killed and maimed I mean it's really crazy.
