Gandhi's Ashes Stolen and Photo Defaced on 150th Birthday ⚱️

Thieves stole some of Mahatma Gandhi's remains on what would have been his 150th birthday, police say. The ashes were taken from a memorial in central India, where they had been kept since 1948 - the year of Gandhi's assassination by a Hindu extremist. The thieves also scrawled "traitor" in green paint across photographs of the independence leader. Some Hindu hardliners view Gandhi as a traitor for his advocacy of Hindu-Muslim unity. This is despite Gandhi being a devout Hindu himself.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) or Gandhi Bapu, father of nation. From his perspective, he wanted to create a peaceful nation with no violence. He was killed by Nathuram Godse (member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh - RSS).

Firstly the motive behind killing Gandhi was not Hindu extremism, they killed Gandhi because he was responsible for divide of India into two nations India and Pakistan, secondly Gandhi could have saved three freedom fighters (including famous Bhagat Singh), but he decided not to intervene the British punishment given to those three freedom fighter, who were later Hanged till death. Gandhi helped Pandit Nehru in becoming the first prime minister of India, which was wrong at every level because the right candidate for Prime Minister was the Sardar Patel.

Now, Shubham, that guy on the top window, just called Gandhi a pedophilic?? Compared RSS with KKK?? You said he beat his wife??? Are you serious mate ??? Do you have any evidences ?? This entire video, all you did was the hate speech against Hindu Community. What are you people upto ??? Please collect your facts from authenticated origin, sort them properly according to series of events and then speak on the respective topic. Please guys, don't let this get out of the context, don't spread the hate.

This isnt right at all. Some would actually see this as blasphemous act. There should be respect for the dead considering the fact that Gandhi was quite an advocate for peace and unity in the Hindu-Muslim Society. This isnt right at all.

What do you think about the Hindu extremists who think highly of the person that killed Gandhi?

(it was discussed in the video).

These men were followers of the man who rejected Gandhi's philosophy, believing Gandhi repeatedly sabotaged the interests of Hindus by using the "fasting unto death" tactic on many issues. To them, Gandhi was giving in to interests that seemed to be anti- national. But then, Gandhi's philosophy is most accepted and led to unity and liberation in India today. It's normal for these kinds of extremist to be in every religion.

Thank you for sharing your perspective 👍😊

It might be a private property violation.

I always though everyone in India considered him a hero, like their Nelson Mandela, guess no one is universally loved by all

guess no one is universally loved by all

Yeah, I think that's true @viraldrome.

His legacy lives on. Happy birthday Mahatma Gandhi. Thanks for the rememberance @atheistrepublic

I appreciate his legacy.

Love and hate are two facet of the coin...one can not exist without the other.

Love and hate are two facet of the coin...one can not exist without the other.

I think that makes sense, at least in a way, since our shared reality consists of opposites.. but what about somewhere in the middle.

What exists between love & hate?

Yes, that is what budha has talked about, "the Middle way".... avoiding both of the extreme.

Not putting labels of love and hate on others, rather seeing everything with an indifferent eye, without any kind of prejudice is what is in the middle.

Yes, that is what Buddha has talked about, "the Middle way".... avoiding both of the extreme.

I actually find value in the Middle Way but not all atheists do.

One of the books that helps explain Buddhism can be downloaded here:

The author explains that both Atheism and Theism could possibly be true depending on the way they are interpreted, but most atheists avoid that argument since the Abrahamic's version of God is the most widespread.

True that.....I think most of the people are atheist only in reaction to the rigid religious frameworks.

But really, I think, living in reaction to the others is not the best way to be.

It's funny, how our freedom is really not ours, how our thoughts are not ours. We give names and structure to our compulsions. Life is strange.

If "our freedom is really not ours" and our "thoughts are not ours".. are our "compulsions" ours?

I think most of the people are atheist only in reaction to the rigid religious frameworks.

One of the points that @armin.navabi usually makes is that most people in just about any group, including atheist groups, are "not very smart".

Having said that, there might also be a reason why people use the label "atheist" in relation to religion. In most cases they are purposely standing up against logical fallacies, hypocrisy, corruption and violence.

I could probably be described as a dispassionate atheist or a dispassionate whatever but I still see that some of the more passionate atheists are doing good work by standing up against injustice, hypocrisy, violence, delusions, etc.

Like @steevc mentioned, there are many different types of atheists..

In my view, It is not really about what is ours and what is not ours, it is about what is binding us down and what is freeing us up. One has to own his or her compulsions if one wants to go beyond them.

"I still see that some of the more passionate atheists are doing good work by standing up against injustice, hypocrisy, violence, delusions, etc."

If you see atheism, as way to fight and standing up against everything you have mentioned, that is alright. I was talking about atheism more of a method for the personal growth, in that context being atheist in reaction should not work. I think.

What happens after someone has already gone beyond their compulsions?

Do the compulsions they perceive remain their own?

This channel on YouTube and Dtube is mainly about atheist activism, and the activism is in response to injustice, hypocrisy, violence and delusions among other things 👍

The fact that they couldn't let him be is really disheartening, I mean there could be been clashes in religious beliefs, but what has a man like Gandhi deserve such treatment after his contribution to Indian's democracy and government as well as firm part of their philosophies. Attack like this towards his resting place is not good. I get there are a lot of accusations a lot of what he's alleged to have done. But respect the man he's dead

This is deplorable!
