there seems to be the idea that we are what we are and that is all we can be
Some years ago my older son and I were reading a book about Ned Kelly and at some point in this whale-bludgeoning volume was a statement by some now long deceased person along the lines of they felt terrible for future generations as they sincerely believed that the telegraph was the pinnacle of technology that nothing would ever be able to surpass it.
When you bring this up it amuses and bemuses me how this is still relevant XD
I think it will always be relevant as each generation that comes believes themselves to be the smartest that any generation can be, because they have access to the latest and greatest. What they don't realize is that it is all built upon the work of the previous generations and their additions are a step on the same staircase, and not the final destination.
