Love is the simplest thing in the world yet, the hardest to understand for it is unbounded, universal, timeless. It is so simple it pervades all, the building blocks of life itself are bound by it. It is the thread that runs through all things, everywhere at all times.
Sounds like the Force from Star Wars.
Or the Force sounds like it :)
There is a lot of spiritual current through Star Wars.
In all seriousness, love belongs squarely in the domain of social animals. Things like protons, rocks, flies, water or trees have no love. The kind of thought processes you spelled out in the above are triggered by spiritual experiences which humans are capable of. We have circuitry for empathy in our brains. When those neurons are firing away at rate much higher than normal, you get spiritual experiences, a sense of a mystical union between the universe and everything. Spirituality like that is also the driving force behind our sense of universal morality.
Every founder of a major religion was influenced by an altered state of consciousness of one kind or another. It is evident in some writings of even the founder of Islam that he must have experienced something like that despite the fact that he was warlord during the latter part of his life, which his later teachings reflect.
