First post: Thoughts on Steemit, Facebook and privacy

in #thoughts7 years ago

There have been some thoughts bugging me on what Steemit could be when I tried wrapping my head around it. Facebook, for some time, has been considered by many to be exploiting/intruding on users privacy and maybe even gathering data for surveillance agencies. Lately there has been much criticism directed towards them and some people are more mindful of what they are posting online. It could be that Facebook has reached a cap on how much information it can squeeze from people. This is where Steemit might come into play. The money incentive can probably make people give more information about themselves than they would have, in the hope that it will raise the interest of individuals which will be rewarded with money. That would probably be one of the dark possibilities.. But let's take another look at it. Things aren't true just because the possibility exists and I for one was thinking of a payment principle for gaming, where usually thousands of hours are lost without real life benefits. So, I guess "innocent until proven guilty" is what applies and, as usual, it all goes down to the user's choices.

There is a lot they are not telling us about the whole privacy issue at Facebook. I posted this article the other day, might be worth reading: https://steemit.com/facebook/@nzfxtrader/the-zuckerberg-squirm
