Why I am Interested in Psychology

Have you ever wondered why psychology is one of the most popular major in the world? This is not just because it gives a huge range and variety of carrier opportunities, but it also offer you the opportunity for personal growth. This is what drew my attention: "Personal growth".

Psychology can be seen as the study of people's behavior, performance, and mental operations. My understanding of this definition simply means that I can apply my knowledge to understand events, mental issues, relationships, improve education etc. Psychology interest a lot of people but not everyone can transform it into a successful carrier so why not take it as your personal study and you will be amazed. Psychology can make you grow personally in that;

• You will develop a curious nature

As a psychologist, you will be curious to find out what make people tick. You will develop that curious mind in such a way that everything that you come across will be different making you feel there is so much you are yet to discover. Having a natural curious mind will make you excel and drive you forward in any professional field you find yourself into.

• You will be non-judgmental and open-minded

With psychology you will see that there will be no room for judgment. You will be that kind of person that people will feel comfortable with discussing their things openly. Close-minded people can't perfect this characteristic.

• You will be a good and careful listener

Just the fact that people think they can open up to you means they must have pointed out that you are a good listener. You will have to listen to others talk about themselves for a long period of time.You will have that ability to be able to concentrate on what people have to say, interpret it and respond appropriately.

• You will be that person everyone can confine in

You will develop the ability to offer sound advice, no matter the problem you are faced with. People will find you trustworthy which is something very important in our lives. You will be that professional that will build a strong relationship based on trust with your clients.

• You will enjoy working with and helping people

You will be able to work with others in any organization you find yourself with the aim of a common goal. Then you will have that prospect of helping and motivating others, work closely with colleagues and clients.

• You will be a good confident communicator

You will understand that verbal communication is important. This will give you the ability to listen well and interpret what others mean. You will also start getting use to reading nonverbal cues like eye contact, body language. These will describe you as a confident communicator.

• You will have the means to learn about yourself and others

You will start wondering why people behave a certain way. You will satisfy yourself in human nature in that you will start to know what make people do certain things. You will also want to learn about your own mind, actions and emotions.

• You will have fun

You will see yourself starting to solve practical theoretical problems, resolve complex emotional issues, develop solutions for real-world problems, or conduct research and add something to scientific knowledge. And you will love what you are doing.

These are the things that drove me to psychology. You must not naturally have all what it takes to become perfect in psychology. Just do some personal studies and have fun on how you will be transformed.
