I saw this video a couple weeks ago. It is absolutely repugnant and I would like to see the perpetrator face the same fate as that poor wombat. And talk about torturing a creature that can do absolutely nothing to defend itself. Terrible terrible stuff.
As for the aboriginal... I would like not to judge an entire group of people by this a-hole cop. I know some aboriginal elders spoke out against what he did. I wish more would.
They guy definitely deserves the same fate as that poor little soul. 😪
I get it. The thing is that they don't, not vociferously enough anyway. All we seem to get is justification for things like this and in this day and age I (and I speak for myself here) do not believe it's enough.
I have a mate who is aboriginal and I spoke to him about this and he says that were he to speak out too loudly about something his community would not take kindly to it and so he remains silent...I think that happens a lot in society in general too. More should speak out though, as you say.
I understand their need, or desire, to remember the old ways, however I don't believe it should be a justification for brutality of this nature, nor do I believe that a person should have to remain silent for fear of reprisal.
Thanks for your comments. I knew when I posted this that there may be some remarks that leaned one way or another however felt strongly enough about it to immortalise my thoughts on the blockchain. I certainly don't expect others to agree with me, or to feel inclined to divulge their true feelings on the matter. I may possibly lose followers over the post but I'm ok with that too.
I feel sorry for the wombat. Being stoned to death can't be pleasant and wombats are such gentle creatures. It must have been horrific.
Wombats are my absolute favorite animal. Well... wombats dachshunds. I totally cried when I saw this. Anyone that would do this Is not a good person.
Yes, I agree.
It's very disturbing to think someone could do this with impunity, explaining it away as tradition. My wife was very disturbed when I mentioned it to her and wouldn't watch the video of course. Oh, also, she had a dachshund called Shelley...Uninspiring name, funny-ass dog!
You wouldn't lose me as a follower - I totally respect your opinion, and forgot to say you're right about tradition being a pisspoor excuse for brutality!
Yeah I know...Didn't think you...Some though I guess...Sometimes people get all funny when someone says something they don't agree with. It's like when I post about guns. I almost always lose a follower or two.
Ha, watch what happens when I post about Greta tomorrow-- eek... I was kinda scared too, and I'm sure half the people here won't agree with me, but kinda felt like I had to say it!
Oh, that...person. Hmm, OK, I'll have a read.
I kind of figure that we're all allowed our opinions though Riv, so why not say it...It's your blog after all. I'm always respectful of people's opinion and rarely do I make any attempt to sway them from it. No point to that. Happy to read a person's opinion though. Information and knowledge brings greater understanding and can provoke further thought. I'm all for it.
Have at it Riv! 😊
