Are You Contributing Towards Society?

As I progress through my studies and work a part time job, I realize that I’m not contributing towards my community or town as much as I should. I haven’t done any volunteer work and my job is working in a restaurant as a cashier. No one gains benefit from my actions besides getting to give their money to me after eating a meal. Although I do not volunteer to help my community or town, I’m in college working towards a career that will make a contribution to help in the future.

As a college student unless I volunteer I’m not helping my community, but I am working towards making that possible. At the moment my role may be small but as long as I stick to my plans eventually, it will become larger. My goal is to get a dual major and then find a job that will help my community, town, state, and country.

As a restaurant cashier, I see good citizens and I see bad. A good citizen is someone that is selfless and wants to see their community, town, state, and country flourish. They will stop at no cost to help, even if that is to give their shirt of their back. A bad citizen is someone that leeches from the government, doesn’t give back to the community, and physically hurts others.

People who want to be a citizen need to start giving back to the world because we take water, food, electricity and our way of life for granted. The older I get, the more I realize that even I take life for granted. It may not run out in my lifetime, but I don’t want to leave it up to my grandkids to have to scrounge to survive.

My question to you is, are you contributing towards society? If so how?
