When Thor debuted in the MCU, he was given Mjolnir, a legendary hammer forged in the heart of a dying star, to help him fight evil all across the Nine Realms. This was the first weapon he was given in the comics and has since become synonymous with the character. However, Thor is a character who was gone through a lot of changes both in the movies in the comics. Thor: Ragnarok just saw him lose his hammer, his eye, and a big portion of his cape. Because of this, the God of Thunder has learned to use several different weapons in his time.

On top of that, there are alternate versions of the God of Thunder who have variations of Mjolnir or different weapons entirely. Some of his other equipment is based in Norse mythology, while others were specifically created for the comics. The point here is that Thor is no slouch when it comes to using a diverse roster of hammers and other weapons. That said, we're only concerned with the best pieces of equipment in his armory. Get ready on a serious history lesson of Thor as we rank his 5 most powerful hammers and weapons ever.

5 . JANE FOSTER MJOLNIR

You'd never know it by watching the Thor movies, but Jane Foster was actually much more useful in the comics. She ended up being worthy of Mjolnir and being known as the new Thor (while the God of Thunder took the name "Odinson"). Despite being a new take on the God of Thunder, she was able to use Mjolnir with the best of them.

However, the reason Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir ranks higher than Thor is because she was able to exercise a level of control over it previously unseen. This led to her unlocking abilities with the hammer that most thought were unattainable. She could change its velocity and trajectory mid-throw and even spin it around extremely fast to trap her foes and it seemed it had a deeper bond with her than with the Odinson.

4 . STORMBREAKER (AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR)

At the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok, Hela escaped her prison and took over Asgard. While trying to stop her, Thor was shocked to see his sister crush Mjolnir in her first move. However, this allowed Thor to unlock his true lightning power and become the God of Thunder he was known as.

No need to worry though, Thor won't be left without a weapon for very long.

In Avengers: Infinity War, he will be getting a new weapon in the form of an axe-type weapon. Reportedly dubbed "Stormbreaker," it takes a few notes from weapons in the comics with some additions of its own. There is much information to suggest that Groot will help in the creation of the axe. We'd also wager that it will be more powerful than Mjolnir due to Thor having fully realized his powers.

3 . CORRUPTED MJOLNIR (EARTH-5113)

One of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe is Dormammu. Being the master of the dark arts and the Dark Dimension, this fiery demon has been known to come to Earth to conquer it, always being fought by the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. However, there is another reality where Strange lost the fight and Dormammu went on to reign over the entire world.

Because of this, there are versions of classic Marvel heroes who have been corrupted by Dormammu. Among them is Thor, who resembles a monster more than an Asgardian. On top of that, Mjolnir has also been corrupted by Dormammu's dark magic, which led to it having much more impressive mystical abilities. It goes above and beyond what Mjolnir would normally be capable of.

2 . THE HAMMER OF THORION

The Amalgam Universe was a reality created when Marvel and DC decided to work together for a major crossover event. It's in this reality that DC and Marvel characters were combined to make new hybrids. Characters like Batman and Wolverine were meshed together to create impressive hybrids. Among these amalgamations was a mix of Thor and Orion.

The resulting character, Thorion, had both the powers of the God of Thunder and DC's New God.

Their weapon of choice was a version of Mjolnir that was imbued with the power of both Thor and Orion. While the hammer itself was much shorter than Mjolnir, it was presumably much stronger. Couple that with the fact that Thorion is closely related to Thanoseid, and you have a recipe for a killer weapon.

1 . MJOLNIR (EARTH-10190)

image.png

Earth-10190 is specifically related to Asgardians. After Loki was involved in a strange turn of events, he inadvertently created Earth-10190. The difference here is that Asgardians were generally a bit more savage and out for blood. However, at the top of the food chain on this Earth was the Mighty Thor himself.

While the Asgardians were much more willing to enter a fight, they still thought was extreme. He longed for the battle and killed whomever he wanted. In this world, Mjolnir was one of the strongest items in the world (even more so than in Earth-616). Having several spikes, Thor could kill whomever he wanted whenever he wanted and no one could stop him. One could only imagine what this Thor would end up doing to Loki.
