Spoiler alert! Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or just don’t care about Marvel movies), you probably know that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be reprising his role in Thor: Love and Thunder. In the movie, Thor will be reuniting with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as they work together to battle Hela (Cate Blanchett) while dealing with their feelings for each other.

5 Things We Know So Far
Director Taika Waititi teased that Thor would fall in love in Thor: Love and Thunder, saying, It’s a big shift for the character. It’s probably his biggest one yet. From whom will he fall? Will it be Jane Foster? Valkyrie? Someone new we haven’t met yet? We’ll have to wait until November 2021 to find out. Here are five things we know so far about what’s coming next for Thor, thanks to interviews with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, cast members like Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins (who will return as Odin), plus Waititi himself.

Natalie Portman is Returning as Jane Foster
It’s official: Natalie Portman is reprising her role as Jane Foster in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. This confirms previous reports from November of last year that Portman was involved with Thor 4, which will also feature Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. The cast for Thor 4 already includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Thompson as Valkyrie, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, and Jeff Goldblum returning to his role of Grandmaster from 2017’s Ragnarok. Taika Waititi is writing and directing. Kevin Feige will produce alongside Brad Winderbaum, Karen Gillan.

Tessa Thompson is Playing Valkyrie
Tessa Thompson is joining Thor: Love and Thunder as Valkyrie, a classic character from Marvel Comics. Valkyrie was created by Stan Lee, Don Rico, & artist Jim Steranko back in June of 1973. In the comics, Valkyrie has often assisted Thor during his adventures with The Avengers. She’s also a warrior who is often depicted wielding a sword; she sometimes takes it upon herself to personally protect Asgard.

Thor’s Hammer Could Make a Huge Change to the MCU
Thor director Taika Waititi is back for Thor: Love and Thunder, but Natalie Portman won’t return. So, where does that leave Thor’s powers? The weapon that first granted him his powers could be key. The hammer Mjolnir will make its way back into Thor’s hands in Thor: Love and Thunder. No word yet on how he’ll get it, but it could bring big changes to not only his relationship with Asgard, but also to his own abilities as a hero.

The Plot Could Focus on a New Enemy
After more than two years offscreen, Thor will be returning to theaters with a brand-new film on Nov. 5 called Thor: Love and Thunder. Directed by Taika Waititi, who also helmed 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, Love and Thunder could mark a significant turning point for Thor’s character in future Marvel movies. He might fall in love, according to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios.

There are Reasons for Hope
The Thor franchise has had a rocky road, but with Taika Waititi returning to helm its fourth movie, there’s reason for hope. Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor for Thor: Love and Thunder, so could another romance be on tap? Perhaps not—but we’ve got plenty of ideas.

Conclusion
Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, has already said he won’t be in Thor 4. The latest Thor movie ends with a few cryptic lines about Jane Foster taking over for Thor. Does that mean she’ll be wielding Mjolnir as we see her being dressed like Thor? Could it all just be another one of Loki’s schemes? We’ll have to wait until November 5 to find out. But at least we know Thor will fall in love again and get his own standalone film called Thor: Love and Thunder. With Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson playing a new character named Valkyrie, and Cate Blanchett playing Lady Sif, who is also known for being lesbian.
