Distant thunder growls
Hinting at much-needed rain
How I love the sound

We've had grumbling storm clouds to our south for much of the day, but so far, not a drop of rain to my knowledge.

Which is fine with me, as with our new kitty still currently ensconced on the front porch, I would prefer that we not have a blow out thunderstorm scare the crap out of her, perhaps literally.

We already dealt with our lovely Truffle smearing herself with poo, as she was figuring out the whole litter box thing, though for the life of me, how she got it on the base of her ear??? I'm guessing that she must have flicked her tail into it, then on top of her head, as any other explanation seems to defy too many laws of physics.

Ah, kittens. This resulted in her first bath, in the kitchen sink, which she tolerated pretty well considering, even though she looked a bit like a drowned rat until she dried. She liked being cuddled in the big, fluffy towel, though. ;-)

We went for her first vet visit today, and she behaved remarkably well in the car, complaining for the first mile or so, then settling down and lying quietly for the remainder of the short ride.

Once in the lobby, she was completely cool and calm, despite the myriad of new smells, and the comings and goings of a succession of interesting people with their dogs and cats. For the most part, I had her carrier door open, and petted her as she lay quietly on her towel.

She was calm while being examined, complained only during the fecal exam, and was calm again afterward. She's one cool and collected little girl - score! And, as she has since evidently mastered the litter box thing, we have a Super Kitty!

She slept most of the way home in the car, score again, and the only real issue I had was trying to give her a dose of wormer via syringe. I've done it before, but you wouldn't have known it to watch us, as I wound up with a lot more wormer on my shirt than in Miss Truffle.

Ah, well, Two more doses to go.

The vet agreed with my estimate that she is likely about six weeks old, though he said she may be a week or two older, but slightly behind in development due to her prolonged lack of proper food.

To make up for that, I've been giving her wet kitten food mixed with milk replacer, some milk kefir, a bit of chlorella powder, and some diatomaceous earth, to give her the added minerals and nutrition she has been lacking.

And, just in the past few days, she is already putting on much-needed weight, and her fur is much softer and shinier.

In any case, she has calmed down remarkably fast considering what she has been through, looks 1000% better than when I picked her up last Friday the 3rd, and once we're done with the wormer, I'll bring her inside permanently and we'll undertake her formal introduction to the other kitties as a new member of our family.

Bear has always been laid back, and though I don't think he's completely thrilled with the new addition, he seems somewhat resigned to it, and I think they will take to one another easily. He adapted to both Miod and Musica easily, and adopted Edit on his own, when Marek and I were in the early stages of house hunting.

Musica is tougher, as she came in as an adult stray, and she's clearly feeling threatened by the newcomer. So I need to pay her some special attention in the next few days to make certain that she knows she is not being replaced.

Lolo already loves Truffle, and she has been completely unafraid of him from the start, leading me to think that he may have a new little buddy, as he had with Miod. Time will tell, but they are clearly interested in each other, and there has been no fear or aggression on either side. ;-)

Life is wonderful, and getting better, better and better!

Oops - I initially forgot to include it, but yes, I am still donating all SBDs earned from this post to @rhondak's dog rescue, #tarc. Forgive me for my momentary lapse of memory. ;-)

I strongly urge all of those who are able to consider helping her out as well, as she is doing remarkable and much-needed work in helping at-risk dogs in need, that would otherwise likely end up in high kill shelters.
