Today I will share a new case.

People don’t understand but like to command blindly

Case from reader C:

I'm a website designer, and I often have to discuss requirements with a product manager. However, the product manager's brain is particularly unclear, and each new requirement cannot be accurately expressed.

Once I asked him what specific design sections of the website should be, and he talk about A, talk about B, and the philosophy of life in the end. Later, according to his statement, I give him a framework first, and then asked him whether he wanted to design these 5 block inside the framwwork, but he actually said that my design was not good-looking? ? ?

I was speechless and said that this is just a framework, not a design at all!

Obviously, he didn't understand anything and he was commanding it randomly. He asked me to add an icon here, and later he said that this icon shouldn't be added here. The problem is that this is what he want me to add here! In the end guess what he said, he actually said that I don't understand user experience, but didn't you make this product plan?

Usually, He did not do anything but just mislead others. Sometimes when you ask him about the job content, he just talks about Bla bla, just not answer your question, no matter what you ask. In short, I feel very tired to communicate with him. "

Interpretation:
I finally understand what the "designer wants to hack the product manager" is. Product managers like the above are probably the people who cause the most public outrage in the workplace.

It's not scary if you don't understand, it's scary you pretend to understand it even if you don't understand .

If you don’t understand, just ask people who understand it to do it. But it's scary if you don't know how to and you pretend to understand, because it will affect the direction of other people's work, and finally it will become a butterfly effect and cause a huge disaster.

And when things get messed up, it's hard to tell who is the root cause.

Because usually this kind of blind command is oral command, and there is no evidence that can be held accountable afterwards. The commander may say below to avoid responsibility:

"I don't, I am not, you are talking nonsense."

Therefore, the best way to deal with this kind of person is to leave a trace in everything, speak and write evidence.

He likes to command blindly? Then let him command, but you have to write down everything he commands and let him confirm. Whether it’s email confirmation or chat history, you must be able to go back afterwards.

For example, write him an email:

"Dear XX, all your requests have been received. In order to ensure the accuracy of the information, I will repeat it and see if you are right..."

Then you write down all the nonsense that the other party has said, and finally ask him to confirm. If the other party doesn't reply the email, you won't start work, and the other party responds and confirms, you can take a screenshot and save it.

In addition, you'd better bring other people to be witnesses. When he is commanding blindly, you don't want to listen alone, but drag others in, and you will have the power of the masses when confronted.

But the best way is to meet this kind of person, stay away as soon as possible, and let them fend for themselves. You are not worth worrying about with this kind of person.

This is all for today. thanks.
