Alarmingly relative with unexpected twists. One of the best books in the current market.

What if I told you that you have a soulmate...one person who is genetically matched to you by your DNA? And what If you managed to meet this person through the use of a dating app?

Well, this the fundamental plot for this exciting and surprising book. At first glance...I wasn't sure. I thought maybe it would be a little too on the soft side. The blurb on the book itself is intriguing but maybe could have given it a little more edge as I almost put it back on the shelf.

I am so glad I didn't as it was probably one of the most exciting books I have read for a while.

Ok, so let's get to the juicy bits...

The book is read as the third person for 5 multiple characters who have all been matched by a dating company called matchyourdna.com (I actually googled the website to see if actually existed, just out of curiosity, and it is up for sale so if you are a budding scientist, get in there!)

The 5 characters in this book offer completely different perspectives to the plot. From serial killers to extramarital affairs, these characters offer everything to quench your "edge of the seat" thirst for excitement.

John Marrs did really well to adapt to each character and has clearly researched the lingo to set the scene and characterisation. I read somewhere that a review thought John Marrs writing was quite childish but I can assure you that is not the case. He writes very clearly and simply, a quality that is sometimes lacking in an over ambitious writer.

The plot is well glued together and although the characters do not all link together, I feel this made a refreshing change to psychological thrillers. It also got me thinking about how easy we could put ourselves in danger meeting people through online applications, even if we were "meant to be!"

So in conclusion, The One is a gripping read that tantalises our thrilling tastebuds. An uncomplicated book that focuses more on a personal storyline than being heavy on narrative descriptions that are really not necessary.

Well done John Marrs for publishing such an exciting book. 9 stars given purely because the blurb on the back could be slightly more alluring.
