To celebrate the 65th anniversary of one of Australia’s most significant plays, Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, Wyndham Cultural Centre will host the show for one day only.

Written by Ray Lawler, the iconic play features Barney and Roo, who visit Melbourne from the cane fields of Queensland to Carlton every summer after the harvest.

However, the seventeenth summer will be different. One of their friends left the group and is replaced by a barmaid called Nancy.

Arts and heritage portfolio holder Cr Tony Hooper said the show, which has placed Australia on the world stage, is a reminder of how times have changed.

“It takes us back to a simpler life that many of us may have experienced growing up in Australia,” Cr Hooper said.

The show that is coming to Wyndham will revisit this 1955 classic under the direction of the award-winning director and producer Denny Lawrence.

The Wyndham Cultural Centre will host the show on Friday, 13th March at 11am and 8pm.

Full price tickets at $45, concession is $40, groups of more than four are $40 each, and students pay $20.

Tickets can be purchased at the Wyndham Cultural Centre’s website www.wycc.com.au or by calling 8734 6000
