The Mediocre Pumpkin Has Landed ~ Original Photography of Jack-o'-lanterns, and Deep Philosophical Gleanings, Just Ripe For The Season ~
"There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin."
-Linus Van Pelt
It's Here. It's Here !
Be still, my flitting heart! It's Sunday morning, the 29th of October. How in the world am I supposed to wait until 8:00 tonight? The seasonal showing of the best Halloween picture-show ever created. "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". A veritable silver-screen classic. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, the Red Baron, and the fresh, ever-philosophical wisdom of Linus Van Pelt.
Deep anticipation at the wait hangs heavy in the crisp, fall air, like a Golden Delicious apple, just ready to plop from the branch onto my head. A true mustn't-miss moment in the start of the emerging, sometimes-too-early holiday season. And I'm supposed to wait 10 more hours for this? Come on, people!
Hey, Go Find Your Own Patch!!
Luckily, I stumbled onto my own pumpkin patch this past weekend here in town. Cleverly disguised as a Halloween nature walk through the park for small, very energetic children. There were carved and candled' pumpkins everywhere! Lining the paths in the deep woods in the dark. All lit up and lined up for the taking.
Who Is That Man Lying Down In The Dirt, Daddy?
I quickly disguised myself as a youngster in an older body, grabbed my camera, and tried to fit in with the surroundings as best I could.
And it wasn't easy. Lying around in the wet grass in the dark with my camera, dodging all kinds of short goblins, pirates, fairy princesses, and other noisy, wild little things I couldn't have identified in GOOD light.
Luckily no one was injured tripping over my prone body, or stepped on my hand or camera in all of the holiday mayhem swirling about, and I captured a whole pumpkin-patch of jack-o'-lanterns for this project you see before you.
(Truth be known, I'm the official volunteer photographer for the event. I just had to divert myself from required duties for awhile in somewhat clandestine style. No one was the wiser, except maybe when I was in the way on the ground.)
So, without further ado, I give you:
"It's The Mediocre Pumpkin, D.D. Schteinn"
-Complete with very profound sayings about the holiday that will be falling around us very soon.
"If life gives you pumpkins, carve them "
"If at first you don't succeed, get a larger carving knife "
"If you truly love something, pick it out, carve it, and put a candle in it "
"Two eyes, a nose and a mouth. Two eyes, a nose and a mouth. Two eyes, a nose and a mouth..."
"Time waits for no hand-carved gourd "
"True beauty shines from within. I think I need a bigger candle! "
"A pumpkin, like many things in life, is only fully appreciated near the end of its existence "
"Be Warned -- Do Not steal me, toss me in the street, drop me off of balconies, or roll me in front of passing motorized vehicles. I know where you lii-iive! "
"A pumpkin is a lot like a man in the 1940's. He wouldn't be caught dead on the street without a good hat "
"Every creation is beautiful in it's own way. Even the droopy, ten day old ones that don't smell very good "
"The secret to a fine, holiday gourd is to carve away everything that doesn't look like a Jack-o'-lantern "
"Boycott Pies!! " -S.P.R.G.V.
(Society for the Preservation of Rotund Garden Vegetables)
"A good carving pumpkin is a lot like a homemade Jon boat. Start and end with a flat bottom and you've got it made "
"True happiness is a large, round, orange vegetable with a candle inside "
"The creative design possibilities for carved pumpkins are truly infinite"

"Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see."

Happy Halloween!
Really amazing pumpkins! They are very fantastic! I love them all! Great shot!
Good trying….. Luckily that you didn’t get any hurt during the process of photography! ;D
Happy Halloween! (again) ;)
It's a dangerous sport, but someone has to do it O:
Glad you enjoyed the grouping. And Happy Halloween to you as well. Do kids come to your door, begging bags of candy?
Yes, someone like you, right? ;)
No kids come to my door...., but I would love to, it would be fun for kids! ;)
congratulations for the excellent work dear friend @ddschteinn, very good pumpkin creations, photography is a true work of art, apparently you have had a lot of fun with them.
have a happy halloween
Thanks muchly, friend. I hat a great time with this project. The joy of the pumpkin and such creative people that made them. Hope you have a great Halloween as well. Do you dress up and run about and have fun?
Very nice pumpkin carvings! Too bad it is very hard to find big pumpkins like that in Taiwan, guess this tradition has yet to become popularized over here.
Thanks. I can only take credit for the recording of them. Hmmm, maybe that is something you can start, be a trend-setter. Might cost a bit to ship you 7800 of them in the kickstart, though ( :
Thanks, Happy Holiday to you as well. Hope you have some plans to dress up or do some other fun things. Such a great time to do whatever you want.
A lot of interesting pumpkins. For a second I thought you carved them all. That would have taken a long time :)
Thank you, I'd like to take credit for more than aiming the camera (and maybe a bit of time processing), but I'd probably still be carving them today ( : This is only a sample of the photos and the wild ideas kids have. Thanks for stopping in for a view and comment, and nice to connect up once again.
They do have some great ideas.
Beautiful photos, they convey the spooky feeling of Halloween!
Nice creative pumpkinry. I get that last one; pumpkin pi!
Thanks, there were tons of them. We got to take them home at the end. (Not ALL of them). Amazing the creativity of the human mind. I thought that last one was a hoot. Glad you got that.
Not only is the carving more than mediocre, the wisdom imparted from the writing is priceless. Should have tagged it #philosophy! Well done!
Thanks mon. I'm glad you enjoyed the homespun pearls of something or other. I like the philosophy idea, maybe I should edit a tag and put it in there. Might get some more 'visual ink'. Have a grand day.
Oh man I was hoping you would spring up to spook everyone! Glad to hear you weren't 100% creeping, and i love that you are the photographer for the pumpkin display - makes me want to do the same someday...
It's a lot of fun, I get to help out, and I get oodles of great photos for Steemit, yaayyy...
I see why they made you the official photographer. These are really great shots. They have a perfect creepy vibe.
I love the one with the cat and the moon. That kid's an artist.
Thanks, they are highly varied, and creepy too. Some of these kids are really talented. Amazing stuff. I have many more, maybe I can keep Halloween going for MONTHS, like the Christmas tree debacle. [I found a Yule skeleton yesterday..."stay tuned"...( : ]
