The Game: Why An Offline MMOG?

For the last week I have been thinking through various aspects of how an offline MMOG could be implemented. During that time I have had several thoughts on the matter, but I have also begun to look at why it should be done. This is what I want to look into for the purpose of this post.

We are hardwired to look for rules and structure, but any you feel you see here is from this site itself. Rules on steemit.com say that # NSFW tags will be hidden, not the blockchain (oooh invisibility).

What we have seen together since joining, is a quest for the rules. Over and over again a common theme is popping up, how do I play? People try to answer, but any answer is really just them relaying rules they themselves has perceived.

Even more interesting is the majority of these "rules" only exist because people believe they do, something that is also true of life. I want to use our new team formed here on this platform, the steemcleaners, as an example. This is a group that has taken it upon themselves to enforce a rule that is really just a social consensus. I am not weighing in on my thoughts regarding it, but it is a result of a formation of a group of people, doing what they believe to be the will of the people. Plageuarism went from something done and rewarded, to something deemed worthy of no reward and finally to something worthy of being shunned by the community.

Speaking for myself, I don't know that I agree with parts of the guest author programs that have been introduced. It is something that has been pretty hot blooded over the past while and caused tension. To some, they are a villain monopolizing the rewards of the platform, and at the same time to others, they are heroes gathering rewards for material that would otherwise go unnoticed. So really, depending on who you ask, the villians, the heroes and the dungeon masters are all winning, all at the same time.

How is that possible? It is exactly because there are no rules, currently there are only cries of "Not fair!".

There Are No Rules

I think it's giving up too much of ourselves when we ask to be protected with rules. We ask for them because of our experience with them.

YOU BROKE THIS RULE, PAY THIS PENALTY

This is a cloak of fear that has been used to cower us our entire lives. How many people have made decisions they didn't want to make because of the penalty they thought would be afflicted on them?

The rules as steemit grows seem to be morphing into the rules of the world we know. I strongly take the stand that there has been no censorship here and that curation is something different. I am starting to wonder how long that will be the case with watchdog groups popping up.

The answer to anybody truly indignant about this, they can form their own website to access the blockchain, essentially removing them. I tend to view this as forming into many tiny islands and less neighboring villages where trade and interaction is still possible.

Instead of mass integration, couldn't we look into colonization?

What if posts we're limited to a single tag from the author? It would allow me to talk freely without trying to force it onto as many eyes, a useful tool if I could select feeds I never want to see.

What if the curation reward was appropriated in part to the curators who are encouraged to suggest, and vote for, the other tags appropriate to the article?

The Game

This very platform is where we first have the opportunity to decide what we want to be. Either through participation, or lack of same, we are forming the rules for the game. I am asking we continue to work and grow together and not simply look to exile those we disagree with.

Myself, I want more than the rules pushed on me my entire life. Why is what we are looking for here anything less than the freedom to express self and the tools to protect those who need, or want, it.

Let's look for options that aren't suppression and make room for a single voice to roar, and change the world, or perhaps wail in isolation.
