Finally Home: Home Sweet Home
Have you ever felt helpless? To the point where this helplessness turns into anger?
So here's the background: PASSPORT saga! This Diary Game is about my children's and my passports, which I applied for 14 days ago using the fast-track portal. This service is supposed to be even quicker than the urgent service. I should have received these passports within two working days. I should have also received a notification via SMS to come and collect them.
Okay, delays happen, no problem. Maybe initially it was an issue with the paper used, and now it might be a problem with the ink. I understand that in a developing country, such issues can arise.
To some extent, we stay mentally prepared for these problems and challenges. For example, last night we had a two-hour unannounced power outage. The heat is unbearable, but what's worse is the anxiety of wondering if the electricity will stay off all night.
So, we’ve been dealing with this kind of anxiety for the past 10 days. Every morning, I check my phone to see if a message has come about passport collection. Especially on Fridays, I set an alarm to avoid being late and missing the opportunity to pick up the passport due to the half working day.
But no message came this Friday too...
Now the bigger concern is that we might have to wait through the weekend as well, because it looks like this will now be pushed to Monday.
And now Monday has arrived. I have to get back home on Monday by any means, as I can't extend my stay even for a day longer. I need to use public transport, but I can’t make the booking. Why?
What if I still don’t get the passports on Monday?
Anyway, we decided that whether we get a message on Monday or not, we will go to the office to find out, because there’s no other way to get information. There’s no phone number, no online assistance…
So, we’ll have to go to this executive office on the other side of the city, but it’s ten times more difficult without my husband’s help.
Anyhow, accompanied by my son and father-in-law, we went to the office at 9 in the morning. We prayed all the way that we would finally get the passports today. So far, we haven't received any SMS. When we arrived at the door, we saw a large notice posted that read:
انک کی عدم دستیابی کی وجہ سے پاسپورٹ بنانے کا عمل رکا ہوا ہے۔ تکلیف کے لیے معذرت خواہ ہیں۔
"Due to the unavailability of ink, the passport-making process is on hold. We apologize for the inconvenience."
No, I didn't take any picture of the notice board. Was there any picture worth taking?
I went straight to the counter and said that I had come to collect the passport. I handed over the tokens, which needed to be submitted to receive the passport.
My heart was beating a thousand times a minute. The man at the counter took the tokens from me, and I was more than sure he would say that they were not ready yet and that I should wait longer. But to my surprise, he turned to his cabinet, took out four passports, asked me to sign for confirmation, and handed them over to me.
I took this picture right there and immediately sent it to my husband.
On the way back, I called a few more people to inform them that, yes, it’s done.
Then we went to the bus stop to get tickets for the 2 o'clock bus. After returning to my in-laws' house, we quickly packed, gave the kids a snack, and at 1:15, we left again for the bus stop.
The journey back was quite comfortable. I watched a Punjabi comedy movie while it rained outside. At the bus stop, the dearest one was already there, waiting to receive us. Seeing him instantly erased all my worries. He is like a shady tree in the scorching sun of life. The beauty of my life.
But these feelings are not easily expressed.
There were puddles of rainwater at the bus stop, so I made him reverse and maneuver the car in such a way that my feet wouldn't get dirty. He gave me that look from inside the car, which I conveniently ignored. As soon as I got in the car, he said,
"I forgot to roll out the red carpet for Princess My Highness."
His sarcastic tone was at its peak, and I smiled my widest smile. I'm writing this post sitting comfortably on my bed in my bedroom, thinking repeatedly... Home sweet home.
Finally, the mission to obtain a passport has been accomplished! 🎉 :-)
By the way, after how many days did you finally get your passport? And how much fee did you pay for the one passport? Because I also plan to renew my expired passport online .
Rs 15,500
For one passport.
Additional charges for fast track and executive services
Got them after 2 weeks
Thank you so much, sister!
Can you favor me once more by telling the name of the app or website you used to get your passport made? Because when I searched, I got many links and couldn't figure out which one is genuine.
I didn't apply online. I visited the office in person.
Got my passport renewed and my children's made.
This particular excuse sounds ridiculous and... bogus, of course, the authorities can't put a sign "due to laziness and lack of motivation of our staff to do what they are paid for" :)
By the way, reissuing my passport and ID here is also always such the saga.
Waiting for at least 2-3 hours seems to be "normal" and it often gets chaotic with people yelling at each other.
Not to mention the prices got doubled (a bit more actually) this year.
Anyway, it is good when it all ends well, right :)
I know it sounds ridiculous, rather a little embarrassing...
But yes there was a problem with consignments of paper and ink :(((
It's a really sad situation! And I am very unhappy about it. I love my country, it has too many good things, unfortunately, economy is not one of those...
I would love to see it prosper and flourish. It's my wishful thinking. Maybe one day...
I understand and relate to what you're saying. My country is in a similar situation with ridiculous things happening and people dying due to corruption and negligence. With the years behind my back I came to the conclusion a positive change only happens when the bigger part of the population wants that change. Those who get elected to rule the country have the same mindset and if not forced to make something, they just collect their salaries and try to do nothing.
Human nature, I guess.
To end this in a positive way, I really hope to see my country somewhere i n the middle of the list of the standard of life in EU, as it has been at the bottom of that list for at least a decade now... :)
Have a great day!
"He is like a shady tree in the scorching sun of life. The beauty of my life." - I loved this line from your post. I can feel your happiness.
Thanks a lot for stopping by httr4life.
I gather you are from US. Other than that I could see your dog in the one of your post:)
Can I know a little more about you :))
Yes, I'm from the US. I'm a writer, and I use Steemit and other social media to find inspiration. The US is very bland in terms of culture. My two daughters, Jordan and Amber, are my life...Amber is married, and Jordan is still in college. My wife died a few years back, so I've devoted everything to them.
Congratulations, your ordeal is finally over.
But pay attention to how valuable and desirable your home has become))
I'm sure you've appreciated him before.
But in order for a person to enjoy simple breathing, it is necessary to make breathing impossible for him for a while :D
Oh yes! I never imagined it would be such a painstaking procedure – especially the waiting part. The uncertainty was maddening, each day passing without any updates, leaving us in a constant state of limbo. Thankfully, our passports arrived just in time. Otherwise, we would have missed the window for...? I'll share the details in a few days. But I'm ever so thankful to the Almighty that I could finally come home. There is definitely no place like home.
There is a saying at our place:
موت دکھا کر بیماری دینا
Threatening with death but inflicting illness
So yeah...
I was surprised by the announcement of the lack of ink ...
I’m just here laughing and thinking.. what if you had reach there and you find out the passport was not ready at the moment, what would you have done???😂😂😂
Well, thank God, you got home safely to meet your husband!! Tell him not to forget next time to bring the red carpet. It seems, he has no idea you’re a Steemit celebrity!! Lol
It would have been a really bad news, you can't imagine how bad. Lol
Really??? I mean you are cracking real jokes now. I'm really just humbled by your remarks but I ain't no celebrity.
