A herbal drink using Coriander and Ginger. 5th Daily Diary 5/6/2020
Today is a full moon day!!! In my country, every full moon day is a national holiday. Because in each full moon day, we commemorate different incidents in Lord Buddha's life or important incidents in Sri Lankan Buddhist culture. This day is called a "Poya" day. In every full moon day, there is an incident we celebrate which is based on the month. For example in May, we celebrate Vesak, to commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. And today, in June we commemorate the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. As the government asked us to not go out, we couldn't go to the temple but we celebrated this poya day from home.
We lighted oil lamps around the house and also decorated our houses with Vesak lanterns.
Today in the morning I did some studies. Then I helped my father to repair the road to our house as some places are broken. Then I had a bath and then took lunch. Then again I help my father to scrap coconut to make coconut oil. We dry scraped coconut pieces and give them to a shop and then they use a machine to evaporate oil from them. Usually, we use 20-30 coconuts to make oil. Then I watched a movie!!!!! I like to watch girlish movies much. So today I watched Mean girls 2. But it seems more the same like mean girls 1. Anyway, I like it. In the evening we did religious activities as well.
Today my mother and me prepared a herbal drink using Coriander and Ginger, which is same as tea or coffee. Maybe you already have used this but I like to write about it here.
Creating a herbal drink using Coriander and Ginger
Ingredients:
- Coriander seeds 250g
- Ginger 50g
How to do:
Chop the ginger into small pieces and dry it using sunlight, dehydrator or low oven.
Wash the coriander seeds and also dry well
Now dry-fry coriander while mixing it. Don't let it to overburn. We only need to make it easy to blend. (About 5-10 min)
Switch off the flame and add ginger pieces to coriander seeds. This is optional we just only need to heat them a bit as it is easy to blend.
Put both ingredients into the blender and blend
Use a suitable strainer to fill out powdered coriander and re-blend the remaining parts.
Repeat this until all the coriander seeds become powder.
Store it in a dry container
We can store this up to 1 month period.
How to use :
Put one or two tablespoon of powder into a cup of boiled water. Then let it 2-3 min to boil. No need flame. Just use boiled water. If you like you can put sugar as your taste. Now drink before it gets cold.
Benefits: Most importantly it boosts immune system. Also, researches have proven that it can act against bacterias. We drink this if we catch a cold and after 2-3 meals it gets disappear. During this pandemic time, we drank coriander once a day to get an extra protection and It really improved our health. This drink reduces the period pains for sure if you take it around particular days. There are many other benefits like reducing blood sugar etc. Above are the things I have already experienced.
Please make sure you have no allergies on Coriander and Ginger if you are going to try!
So this is my diary for today. Have a nice day!
