#thediarygame 2日目の話題は、眼鏡についてです。
以前、@tomoyanが眼鏡について、興味深い投稿をしていました。それを読んで、そういえば眼鏡について、ずいぶん書くことがありそうだと気が付いていました。

The other day, @tomoyan posted a interesting post about glasses. Reading that, I found I also have write about glasses.

私と眼鏡の付き合いは長く、10代のころから眼鏡をかけています。
一時期、コンタクトレンズにしていたのですが、わたしはひどいドライアイで、なかなかコンタクトレンズが眼球から外れてくれない、という怖い経験もしました。同様の経験をしたことのある人は多いのでは？

I have been wearing glasses since I was a teenager.
I used to be a contact lens for a while, but I had a terrible dry eye, and I had the scary experience that the contact lens wouldn't come off the eyeball. Maybe you have similar experiences?

眼鏡に戻した理由の一つに、近年は、ファッショナブルで安価な眼鏡メーカーが増えたということもあります。眼鏡1本が5000円～くらいで、しかもレンズ込みの値段でで購入できる。これは大きなイノベーションでした。

手ごろな値段の眼鏡を、ファストファッションの感覚で持つのは素敵なことですが、それは裏を返せば、どの眼鏡にも少しずつ不満がある、だからまた買ってしまう、ということにほかなりません。

ところで、ファストファッション的な眼鏡屋さんが人気であるとともに、近年は、眼鏡職人の街として有名な、福井県の鯖江のように、日本の職人が作った、作り方がかなり緻密で、なおかつファッションセンスにも優れた高級眼鏡が人気にもなっていました。

そうしたブランドも、東京のデパートなどに出店しています。外出した際に何軒か見ていたのですが、「金子眼鏡」で、とても気になる一本と出逢うことになりました。

さすがに長年、眼鏡をかけてきていますので、どんなに気に入ったデザインのものでも、合わないものは合わないし、そこを無理に買うと、使っているうちに不満が出てくることは経験しています。一方で、第一印象で、「これは自分にとって合いそうな眼鏡だ」ということも解ります。

「金子眼鏡」で出逢ったフレームは、高級感があるだけでなく、フィット感も素晴らしいものでした。さすがにその場では即決できず、店員さんにお願いしてショップカードに品番号を控えてもらい、しばらく考えることにしました。
第一印象で決めたものの、珍しく、よく考えてから購入しました。税込みで3万3000円でした。

The frame I met in "KANEKO OPTICAL" was not only luxurious but also great in fit. I couldn't make a quick decision, so I asked the clerk to write down the item number and decided to think for a while.
Finally, I bought new one. It was 33,000 yen (US$320) including tax.

せっかくですから、レンズも、専門家に選んでもらおうと思いました。レンズだけの専門店があると聞き、予約をして足を運んでみました。

I also decided to have an expert select eyeglass lenses. Hearing that there is a lens-only shop in Tokyo, so I made a reservation and visited.

お店のウェブサイトには、世の中にはこんなにレンズがあるのだ、と驚くほど、かなり詳しい説明があったのですが、店舗を訪れてみると、ディスプレイされているレンズの多さに、また驚きました。
視力検査やカウンセリングは、1時間ほど。メガネレンズ選びに、これほど時間をかけたのは初めてです。

There was a surprisingly detailed explanation on the shop's website that there are so many lenses in the world. When I visited the store, I was surprised again by the number of lenses displayed.

担当してくれた技師の方は知識は深く、かつフレンドリーで、私の近視や乱視の度合いや、どんなシーンで使いたいのかということをふまえ、値段ではなく、こうした理由でこのレンズがいい、とお勧めしてくれました。1セット税込みで2万円弱。

The engineer who was in charge was very knowledgeable but very friendly, and asked about my degree of myopia and astigmatism and what kind of scene I would like to use. He recommended this lens for this reason, not the price. The price is about 20,000 yen (US$190) including tax.

1週間ほどで連絡があり、受け取りに行ってきました。おまけにレンズクリーナーが付いてきて、店舗に持っていけば、補充していただけるそうです。

I was contacted in about a week and went to pick it up. They gave me a lens cleaner. When you're done, take the container to the store and you'll be refilled.

今日も、新しい眼鏡で生活しています。わたしは日常生活でも眼鏡が必要になる視力なので、自宅にいるときは、以前購入したプラスチックフレームの眼鏡をぱっとかけていますが、やはり、自分との一体感という点で勝る、新しい眼鏡をかけることが多くなりました。

I still live with new glasses today. I always need glasses for everyday life, so when I'm at home, I'm wearing the plastic frame glasses I bought before. But after all, I often wear new glasses that excel in terms of oneness with myself.

さきほど、ファストファッションと書きましたが、まさにこれは、ファストファッションと仕立ての服との違いそのものだと感じています。
部屋でくつろぐときは、寝ころんでもしわになることを気にしないファストファッションのほうが楽ですし、仕事に行くときは、身体にフィットしたスーツなどのほうが、気持ちが引き締まります。

Earlier I wrote fast fashion. I feel that this is the very difference between fast fashion and tailored clothing.
When you relax in your room, it's easier to wear fast fashion that doesn't worry about wrinkles when you lie down, and when you go to work, a suit that fits your body makes you feel tighter.

そこには用途の違いやコストの違い、求める価値観の違いなどがあるので、そもそも両者は比べようがないものです。消費者の一人として、価値観ごとに商品があり、選ぶことができるなんて、幸せなことだと思います。

There are different uses, different costs, and different sense of values, so the two are incomparable in the first place.
As one of the consumers, I am happy that there is a product for each value and that I can choose it.

ただ、わたしの今の気分としては、自分にぴったりと合うものが心地いいので、この眼鏡は長くかけることになるかもしれないと感じています。

However, my current mood is that I feel comfortable with something that fits me perfectly. So I feel that new glasses may be worn for a long time.
