Now, with the full details of the journalism news, I have for you guys, the dramatic reactions, moves and the hullabaloo between the New Democratic party and the New Patriotic Party in Ghanaian politics. These are the two main political parties trending in Ghana now, they have the strongest votes in the whole country. For the part twenty years they have been ruling the nation, if it isn't the NDC winning the the political seat, then definitely is NPP. This of course has brought a great competition among the entire population, and we know how politics have been influencing most people in various countries, if your party is in opposition, the incumbent party becomes your enemy and vise-verse.
We thought that the two political parties would let bygones be bygones, and the kind of bone of contention between them would be settled, or the beef that these two parties have can be amicably be resolved in this untimely hit of Covid-19 that every nation is thinking about the way forward to curb it. But the dramatic actions still continue between them. The whole drama started when in somewhere January this year, NPP planned to open for another new register for everybody to write his or her name to be eligible to vote in 7th December 2020 polls. It has been a routine that every four years they open entries for new voters, those having issues on their voter cards and those who can't be eligible to vote. The point of misunderstanding of NDC allowing NPP to open new registration book is that, later last year the NPP opened for the registration of citizens who have attained 18 years and will be legible to vote in the 7th December 2020 polls. So, the question of NDC is that, why do you open for another registration for people again, while some has been done last year? But, NPP is also on the point that this is the regular exercise we do for every four years when Ghanaians are coming to cast their votes.
This issue happened before the lockdown in March and April. NPP decided to embark on the exercise, whiles interviews of those registers for this entries of new voters register were conducted during the partial lockdown. But NDC disagreed to this issue so they sent the issue to court which is now pending. As we speak now, there have issues going on everyday between the opposition parties and the incumbent parties debating where the clear truth to this matter should lie. The two fragberers of the two parties have even kept mute on this, but their party members still carry the issue on, so on radios, televisions, information centres and everywhere this issue has been the topic under discussion.
This political drama raises issues of concerns to most people, and even some Ghanaians have talked about it, that if the entries of the new voters register is boycotted or allowed, will Ghanaian citizens still vote on the 7th December 2020 whiles the Covid-19 pandemic exist? Many people are asking this question because we are intensifying campaigns about ensuring strict social distancing, and because of that church worships, Muslim meetings, funeral celebration, wedding celebration, schools and all forms of social gathering have been called off due to Covid-19 infection. Then, should the election comes on where are these many people going to stand to cast their votes? None of the parties seems not talking about the way forward of how this is going to be addressed. The prevention of Covid-19 should be our priority before the 2020 elections. The two parties hold the view that at all cost the 2020 general election should come on irrespective of what is going to happen. But, we should know that if one is not healthy it will be difficult for the person to go to the poll and cast his or her vote.
