in #the8 years ago (edited)

When Cambodia was controlled by France. The french colonial government built the first railway line, which runs from Phnom penh to Poitpet on the Thai border and Phnom Penh railway station was open in 1932. Between 1955 and 1969 Francen, West Germany and the people's Republic of China, they supported the contruction of the second line, which runs from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville.

The total is 612 kilometres (380 mi) from Sihanoukville to Poipet Thai boder. It go through Phnom penh, Kampong Chhnang, Posat, Moung risay, Battambang and Sisaphon. Nowadays there are no more train running on those railways. After the civil war, many stations have been destroyed by the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodian government do not rebuild it again.

In Battambang became very popular with a new transportation that runs on this old railway. Cambodian people called it The Flying Bed of ( The bamboo Train). It is made from the Bamboo and the wheels they got them from the broken tank.

Before they use the pedal to push it ,but now they use the pumping waster motor to track the wheels.

With the break systems they use the old car tire to make the shoes and then if the driver he want to stop he just step on the wheel with his tire shoes.

there is only one railway and there are many bamboo trains runing on the same rail. When the one on the way and the other one coming from opposite way both of the drivers have to stop, then they have to compare which one have more heavyweight then that one have to get off. Some time they do have the same weight so they have to play a game which just by throwing a coint in the air. If one of them lost in the game then all passengers have to get off dan helping the other dirver with lifting off bamboo train from the rail and they have to let the one that won the game go.

The baboo train runs from Odambang Village Osrolouv Village. During the rainy season on the road in the countryside very bad, so it impossible for the transportaion. That's right, the bambootrain became very useful for the famers when they have to go to work in the rice field.

The bamboo train also very popular for the tourist. When they come to Battmabang they always wanted to ride on the Bamboo train. Because they think it's fun and they could see a real life of Cambodian farmer and a long the way there are a lot plantations with a beautiful landscape.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I would've loved to see it back when they had to manually pedal it!

Also, if I may offer a friendly piece of advice for future posts: People often sort posts by tags, and they probably aren't looking at the, flying, and bed tags very often. I'd suggest tags like photography, travel, and cambodia. Using more popular tags will help the visibility of your posts.

Thanks for comment, oh yes i have seen it with the pedal when i was in Cambodia two years ago. They have to do it with two peoples. It was very funny to see. If you will be in Cambodia one day just don't forget to jump on it. I think you would love the trip with the flying bed.
