The posting of a Thai woman on Facebook, which should pay at a food stall Farang, creates a stir in the social networks. The vendor at a food stall on the Neon Market had taken the woman for a Chinese tourist and billed her 150 baht for a bowl of Kaprow Moo Grob (fried pork belly with holy basil).

Ms. Suthaporn Lee reported on her Facebook page Monday that she had ordered and eaten a bowl of Pad Kaprow Moo Grob at the Neon Market. When she was about to pay, the saleswoman demanded 150 baht for a dish that usually costs between 35 and 50 baht on the streets of Bangkok.

The neon market is located in Pratunam district, an area that is especially popular with Chinese tourists.

Mrs. Suthaporn writes in her commentary: "After I had eaten, I demanded the bill. On the bill was 150 baht. I looked at the bill and asked the waitress "Is this really the Thai price for a bowl pad Kaprow Moo Grob? And she said yes ".

"The saleswoman showed me a list with the pictures of the offered meals, but there were no prices on this list," she continues.

After posting around the social networks and attracting a lot of attention, a reporter from Amarin TV headed to the neon market to talk to the owner of the food stall. However, the owner told the reporter that the required 150 baht for a bowl pad Kaprow Moo Grob was a farang price.

Her waitress said the customer was a Chinese tourist, so she just asked for the totally overdrawn 150 baht, the stall owner admitted Ms. Manee Maitree to Amarin TV.

Since Ms. Suthaporn is a Thai, she would normally have paid only 80 baht, she added. Ms. Manee said that she usually bills Chinese tourists and farang (foreigners) between 120 and 150 baht for a simple Thai meal.

Ms. Manee added that after Mrs. Suthaporn complained about the price, she offered her a discount. "The woman refused, however, and told me that it was already too late, as she had already reported on Facebook on Facebook," she added.

She told the Amarin TV reporter: "You know how expensive the stand rental for a day is here. I do not want to talk about it anymore ".

Ms. Manee added that there is no Thai price list for the food offered at her stand. However, at least she would always tell her Thai customers that, of course, there is another, cheaper Thai price for them.

On the day when the reporter was there, when Thai customers passed by the food stall, she actually had a price list to read prices for meals.

"She told me that there is a cheaper Thai price for Thais, and the numbers on the menu are the prices for the Chinese tourists and for the Farangs," said a Thai customer named Vorapan Khunthongchan to the local TV channel Amarin TV.

"According to the menu, a pasta dish costs 80 baht. Thais, on the other hand, are charged only 60 baht for the same pasta dish, "added her friend, with whom she was on the neon market together.

The story quickly became popular on social networks, and many Thai Internet users criticized it heavily. Many users criticized the dual pricing tactic and said, whether Thai or Farang, all customers should pay the same price for a meal.

"I just do not understand. Who started this? Who uses such a thing? Foreigners pay a price. Thais, on the other hand, pay another, cheaper price. We are your hosts. We should impress her with our food and our friendliness impress. Then they can tell their friends and family at home about the good experiences in Thailand and maybe even bring more tourists into the country. The government should take care of such cases and check them closely, "Boy Neverdies writes in his comment.

"Although we promote tourism, at the same time we allow tourists to pay overpriced prices," wrote another user.

A female user agreed at least on one point with the complaints: "Foreigners are also human beings".

After Amarin TV reported on the case, the Ministry of Commerce also spoke on Thursday, saying that it will investigate this matter.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Commerce responded that it would investigate the matter. If the seller is found guilty of overcharging foreign customers, they would be liable to pay a fee imprisonment of up to seven years, and / or a fine of 100,000 baht.
