Tezdele Q&A: Why does the baking take every 7 cycles for baking? and why it is 5 more cycles for preservation?

Hi All,

Me, Rooney, is back with another question!

Today, what I brought here is pretty easy one, the fundamental mechanism in which lies in the bottom of Tezos network.

However, I found that there still are a lot of people coming into Tezos world not being aware of it enough although they have already delegated their Tezos to certain bakers so that I want to reiterate it again for those novices.

Don't be surprised that if this is too easy one, and then here we go!

Q: Why does the baking take every 7 cycles for baking? and why it is 5 more cycles we should wait for preservation?

I believe that the most people may wonder that why there are 7 and 5 more cycles which takes in the ball park of 35 days to get the rewards, moreover, that is my rewards from the baking! Therefore, I would like to kindly expound about the reasons of and what is going on during both periods.

A: Each 7 and 5 cycles of intervals are made just by Tezos development team and there might be some mathematical algorithms being calculated in advance and decided down there, thus, on our end, it is better to take it as it is. Then, despite the fact that, still there are some curiosities remain, and you must want to know what is happening.

For 7 cycles of baking, it is the process of deciding which bakers are allowed to bake or endorse: 1 baker and 32 endorsers per baking, and how much priority they are given for the tasks. Baking rights are calculated and assigned based on roll snapshots of 7 cycles before.

For 5 cycles of baking, it is the process of preserving bakers deposits and rewards of rolls being baked. This is an examine period preventing errors and corruptions that might be arisen right after the baking. In regard to this, they, the Tezos development team, believed that these number of cycles, 5 cycles, are good enough to make it sure.

Alright, here is today's answer for the question and hope you find this helpful!

Thanks,

Sincerely,
Rooney
