RE: Blockchain taming the Dragon of Corruption

Yes, I forgot Romania is a a bit different on that level. EU regulations might play the hero intervention, I like that. I also like the lay-out of this particular post and had to smile with the turkey Christmas, way to go!

"asking turkeys to vote for Christmas" is a typical american expression I think - learned by reading The Economist. I like it a lot :-)

The balance of power between nation states and the EU level is a very useful democratic check for all the states, not only for laggards like Romania.

Typical example is when you need to pass a painful reform (like increase retirement age or pension contribution) - a national government that would do that risks not being re-elected. In the past, they used to claim "it's not us, it's Brussels that forces us to do it!" in order to deflect blame. Unfortunately this led to Brexit and the raise of europhobic sentiment.

Another quote I like a lot is from EC President Jean-Claude Juncker (when he was head of the Eurogroup):

"We all know what to do. We just don't know how to be re-elected after we've done it"

Imagine if you had to win re-election as Dad after you instructed your kids to eat their vegetables and denied them the third Nutella pancake!
