Your daily tests | Ep. 7.

Today’s test might seem difficult, but it’s simple math. Also, it’s worth it, because I’m sure you’ll laugh at the end of it.

Take a paper and try to do the math for this, and if you don’t get it right, no problem. You can read the solution at the end.

Problem:

A mom is older than her child with 21 years.
In 6 years, the child will be 5 times younger than the mother.

Question: Where is the father right now?

(Like I said, this problem can only be solved by doing the math, and it’s easier than it seems).

Solution:

Let’s say the child is X years old, and the mom is Y years old. We know that the mom is bigger than the child with 21 years, so:

X + 21 = Y

We know that in 6 years from now, the kid will be 5 times younger than the mother, so we can write the following equation:

5 (X + 6) = Y + 6

By replacing Y with the value from the first equation, we get:

5 (X + 6) = X + 21 + 6
5X + 30 = X + 27
5X – X = 27 – 30
4X = -3
X = -3/4

The child’s age today is -3/4 from a year, which means he is -9 months old.

We’ve just proved that the mother is conceiving the baby right now. So where’s the father?

Answer: The father is on top of the mother.

That is one odd riddle.
