Unifi Vs Maxis Fibre Speed Test

in #test3 years ago

There has been some debate recently on which Fiber Broadband Provider offers the best internet speeds and service after Maxis launched its Fibre Optic broadband service in conjunction with World's First Gigabit network at 97.3 FM.
Until now, most people would automatically assume that Unifi is still better than Maxis fibre because they offer wider coverage due to their larger home base of existing Unifi customers from before, but lately there have been more and more complaints about poor connection speed and dropouts with Unifi.
With this launch of Maxis fiber broadband however, many people are naturally curious as to how does it compare to Unifi in terms of speed and reliability?
The most common question asked is "What is the difference between a 100Mbps Unifi connection and a 100Mpbs Maxis fibre connection? Does it matter?"
Read on to find out the results of this speed test analysis.
Background Knowledge
Unifi is about providing fast internet speeds with low latency, while Maxi's scope is more about availability (getting connected), not at the expense of offering high end internet speeds too. Both companies are trying to target different demographics. However, since most people use both Unifi and Maxis under the same order ID for registration purposes, it makes sense to do a head-to-head comparison between them in terms of speed and performance testing. The cheapest plan offered by either providers will be used for this purpose: For Unifi, we take their lowest 30Mbps plan - Unifi 30 Plan For Maxis, we take their lowest 100Mbps plan - MaxisONE Play Plan
Both plans are taken only because they are the cheapest in their respective categories. No other factors were considered beyond that. You can also check here https://www.charterspeedtest.info/unifi-vs-maxis-fibre-speed-test/
Measuring Methodology To get an accurate measurement of both companies' service, tests will be performed using software called "Speedtest" on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phone running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Speedtest is available for free via Google Play. To reduce influence due to network variability (network congestion/degradation), all speed tests were done at similar times during peak periods of traffic. This means about 9pm onwards to 11pm over the course of seven days, including weekends. The tests were done at various times to reduce the chance of hitting a "lucky" or "unlucky" spot where speeds are often faster or slower than the norm, making the results more accurate.
download speeds on both Unifi 30Mbps and Maxis100 are within 2-3 Mbps of each other at peak hours which is consistent with the advertised speed range of Unifi 30Mbps and Maxis 100Mbps.
