Have you seen this BEAST -- Damn, it is SICK!
And this semi can haul ass -- 0-60 mph in 5 seconds.., add 80,000 lbs of cargo and it will take a mere 20 seconds -- twice a fast a normal diesel truck. It climbs faster, can recapture 98% of its regenerative braking power into the battery, it is more responsive and you never have to replace the brakes. Its charge can take you 500 miles, that is the equivalent to going to your destination and back on a single charge -- all solar powered by Megachargers at a cost of $0.07 per kWh.
The interior or cab is insane… It has one seat -- centered, flanked by two large touchscreens for navigation and a surround view.., and the driver can even stand if he wants too. There are four motors.., and even if two break down (highly unlikely) you can still kick the ass of a regular diesel truck. The motors are the ones from the Model 3 and that killer interior is not unlike the freaking McLaren F1. The increased visibility and thermonuclear windshield will enhance its safety, while never getting a crack, keeping your truck out of the shop and on the road.
It will no doubt be the smartest semi truck ever to hit the road.., with its advanced autopilot, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist.., and those regenerative brakes prevent jackknifing. And those two touchscreens can integrate with commercial fleet management systems, enabling remote tracking and even diagnostics. And with so few moving parts it is way more reliable than a standard semi truck. Traveling in a convoy -- no problem.., this BEAST can autonomously follow a lead semi truck. Plus, there is no gear shifting, making it super easy to drive, enabling more people to sit at the helm of this beast.
Besides the speed, braking, increased reliability and safety.., it will reduce cost by 20% per mile and with that convoy feature it can even beat the cost of rail transportation and is expected to the operator $200k on fuel over 1 million miles. It cuts down o pollution, saves on labor costs.., and looks freaking hot.
This is a total game-changer to the trucking industry, it was unveiled Thursday night… and Walmart has already ordered 15 of these beasts!

I thought the trucks were very cool if a bit ugly looking. I always thought that Tesla's make beautiful looking cars. I certainly like the look of the roadster though!

I remember Elon Musk saying how it rivals trains for efficiency. But it doesn't look anywhere near as sleek as one. It also has a drag coefficient lower than a Bugatti but still looks quite bland in comparison!

Yep -- it does have a lower drag coefficient.., and next to Bugatti most things look pretty bland.

This is incredible! I meant to watch the live stream of the unveiling but missed it. I'm a huge fan of all things Tesla.
Yeah, I missed the live stream, too. But I was with someone that is a Tesla freak and she wouldn't stop talking about THE BEAST!
One point to consider is the excessive additional weight of the batteries decreases the payload. Truly impressive numbers, but I'd like to see a finished product to actually see the numbers, and feasibility of the business model. Personally not a big Elon Musk fan.

I agree. If the actual matches the projected numbers the same way his business model has, it'll be a train wreck. Or maybe after he epically fails on trucks, he will up the stakes to electric trains, which in all reality would be a better platform for electric transportation.
All this technology is looong overdue... And trains would be sweet!
