Tesla Model X Crosses the Sahara Desert

Team Tesla - Powered by RWE participated in the Budapest -
Bamako rally race, the largest amateur rally race in the world. The team drove a Tesla Model X, and it is the first time an electric car has been driven across the Sahara Desert.

The race course started in Budapest, went through Europe, across the Mediterranean Sea (they didn't drive through it), and through the Sahara Desert to end in Bamako, Mali. The race was a little over two weeks, and teams traveled over 5,300 miles (8600 km).

The team used various methods to charge throughout the course, utilizing public charging in Europe and Africa. Of course, in the remote regions of the desert, there were no places to charge. A support van was used to "refuel" the car with electrons, using a gas powered generator.
