Thanks @joanstewart they are bad for home but quite good for some other insects..
We had problems with them getting into the wood in the house and had to get specialist to come pump into the foundations to kill the nest, there was a large termite hill across the road on vacant land.
Boy scouts thought they would use one for an oven when out in the bush many year ago, dug into the hill to make a fire under the oven higher up, with it being an old hill they with no sign of life. Half an hour after lighting the fire they realized the ground underfoot was hot, small fires started popping up in the veld, they had to spend the night extinguishing, fires had spread through the underground system built.
