A Trip to the 2017 US Open

On Tuesday, September 5th I took a trip down to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, NY to witness the 2017 US Open Quarter Finals. It was my first time at a tennis tournament but it certainly won't be my last. The US Open was full of awesome food, intense sport and great times. I went with fellow STEEMians @mikebuch and @richdurazzo. Our ticket was for the evening session (7PM) and we arrived around 5:30. Here are some photo's from my trip to the US Open.

Court of Champions

The US Open has been around since 1881 and has seen some of the greatest tennis players in the world.

Andre Agassi

As a child, Agassi was always my favorite tennis player.

Fuku's 163 Burger

One of the best parts (if not THE best) of the day was this exclusive Fuku burger found only at the 2017 US Open food village. The 163 burger consists of 2 medium-rare patties made from a custom blend of Pat LaFrieda beef, American cheese, and a chickpea hozon special sauce loaded on top of a Chinese-style bing bun that Fuku owner David Chang developed in partnership with Harlem’s Hot Bread Kitchen. This was hands down the best burger I have had in my life and pictures don't do it justice.

An open court was the perfect place to sit and enjoy the 163 burger.

Venus - vs - Petra

One of the most exiting matches of the night was the Woman's quarterfinal match-up between Venus Williams and Petra Kvitová. The stadium was packed and the crowd was buzzing to witness tennis great Venus Williams play in person. The match went down to the wire but Venus was able to hold on to a victory and continue to the semi-finals.

RESULTS
V. Williams: (W) 6 - 3 - 7
P. Kvitová: (L) 3 - 6 - 6

Querrey -vs- Anderson

The Men's match of the night was a quarter final showdown between Sam Querrey and Kevin Anderson. It seemed like the stadium emptied out after the Venus Williams match and there was not as much excitement in the crowd for this one, although the Men clearly hit the ball much harder and the game-play itself is much more intense.

RESULTS
S. Querrey: (L) 6 - 7 - 3 - 6
K. Anderson: (W) 7 - 6 - 6 -7

Unisphere

We left the court after midnight and took a stroll through Flushing Meadow Park on our way to the car. Here's a shot of the steel Unisphere structure dedicated to Peace and Prosperity at the 1964 New York World's Fair.

awesome night @jeffjagoe @richdurazzo

I don't like sports, but I like your post

Thanks @samstickkz I appreciate that!

Man that must have been a blast! I am not much for watching sports, but Tennis is one of the ones i really like ! It's very hard for a Tennis game to be boring in my opinion ! That Fuku's Burger also looks like it made it worth going there !

Yes the Fuku burger was one of the main reasons why I got a ticket in the first place. I wasn't much of a tennis fan before this but now I definitely want to give it a try.

Some hamburgers are so good they are life altering. I definitely need to sink my teeth into one of those !

How are the burgers in Asia?!

Honestly most of the time they are quite dry. Most good meat here is imported, and I guess in the end it's not gonna be as fresh and tasty as good as if you bought locally or atleast meat that was produced close by. We do have one restaurant here though, the owner is from New York I think. It's called Slim's I think. The chef is very merited it seems and he even has photos together with Bill Clinton. Really juicy good burgers there and the best I have had in China anyways!

That must have been such a cool experience one year I hope to go to some matches there, awesome shots and that Bürger looks so damn good I would have to break my diet and try that

It was definitely worth breaking any diets!
