in #tenfactsonelie6 years ago

A week has past.

Today is the day to reveal my lie!

Thank you to: @silverd510, @ashley4u, @redrica, @sili, @edthecanadian, @nomadsfix, @coindevil, @silversaver888 and @owenwat for participating!

Thank you to @thedamus for nominating me, for participating, for sponsoring me into #ssg and for putting up the steem to get me lead tier for a month!

🇨🇦 You are the best kind of crazy. 🇨🇦

So, I want to build a little bit of suspense. As, such I shall reveal the answers out of order. ☺️ Here we go!

1. I was my high school’s mascot junior and senior years.

TRUE

Yes, I dressed as a bear and hopped around at all the sporting events. 🐻

11. There was a yacht named after me.

TRUE

My grandfather was a mechanic and super talented. He owned his own automotive shop and even built a house once. He used to buy yachts, remodel them and sell them for a profit. He loved boating but I think his real joy came in doing the work. Whenever he finished one boat you could tell he was ready to find another one to rebuild. When we would go to their boats he would always be in the engine room tinkering away. Anyway, they always named their yachts after me.

9. I lived overseas for almost 5 years.

@redrica guessed this to be my lie.

TRUE

I am American. My husband is Australian. After we got married I moved to Australia. We lived in Canberra, his home town. After close to five years he got a green card and we moved back to the USA.

💚💛 🇦🇺 🇦🇺 🇦🇺 💛💚

10. Prince Charles waved to me from the back seat of a car.

@edthecanadian and @sili believed this to be my lie.

TRUE

Prince Charles did wave to me!

I forget the year (sometime in the early 2000’s), I was living in Canberra, Australia. My office was located next to the airport on what used to be an old military base. When dignitaries would come to town, they would exit the airport via the old base verses the public portion of the airport. I knew Prince Charles was coming, so I sat on the lawn in front of my office hoping to get a glimpse. I was all alone. Finally his car went past. His window was down, they were going slowly. I raised my hand to wave hello, he looked me in the eye, nodded his head and waved back. 😄

2. I used to have enough “sea time” to get a ship’s captain license.

TRUE

After college (aka uni or university) I worked for a local boat tour company called Argosy Cruises. The company offers tours, private charters and special holiday cruises. On the cruises I would deckhand, bartend and tour guide. I also coordinated weddings. When the captain had to use the restroom I would drive the ship. ☺️ All crew had to check the engine room, learn different nautical rope knots, get certified in CPR and first aid.... it was a lot of fun, but I didn’t see myself as a ship’s captain, even though I had the hours and training to have taken the test.

7. I am a direct descendant of a woman who was hung during the Salem Witch Trials for being a witch.

@ashley4u picked this as my lie.

TRUE

My 9 or 10 times great grandmother was executed for being a witch!!! The family story goes that she was a strong independent widow, and that people in Salem were after her inheritance. She even has a Wikipedia page - HERE

6. I appear on the cover of a 311 album.

@silverd510 picked this to be my lie.

TRUE

For 311’s twelfth studio album, Mosaic, fans submitted photos which became part of the cover art. Check it out HERE

8. I once got into a verbal altercation with Trey Cool (the drummer from Green Day) in my hotel room.

@silversaver888 thought this was my lie.

TRUE

In 1994, my friends (all guys) and I drove to Eastern Washington to see the Beastie Boys play Lollapalooza at the Gorge Amphitheater. Other bands that played... Smashing Pumpkins, the Breeders, George Clinton and a newer band called Green Day. We were 20, and my friend’s little sister and her girl friends came with us. They were still in high school, only 16 and 17 years old. We booked two adjoining rooms at some cheap hotel in Ellensburg, WA.

Well the littles were partiers (drinking) and they ended up in some guy’s room. He said he was in a band that was opening for Beastie Boys. It turns out the guy was Trey Cool, the drummer from Green Day. He was 22 at the time. After a lot of back and forth across the hall, the girls brought him back to our adjoining rooms.

He seemed sketchy. The girls and he were obviously hoping for a make out session (in the very least) and he came into our space like he was some kind of celebrity - which he wasn’t back then. I ended up telling him off for hanging around with underaged girls. He also told me not to take any pictures while he was in our room. I let him know that since he was in our room I really didn’t care what he wanted me to do or not do.

End of story, we kept the girls out of trouble and Green Day became a mega band. ☺️

3. My great-great-grandfathers were brothers who fought on opposite sides during the US Civil War.

@owenwat guessed this was my lie.

TRUE

Newton Sobieski Finney and Edwin Erasmus Finney were brothers and were both soldiers in the US Army. Newton had married into a rich southern family who owned Jekyll Island, Georgia. When the south succeeded from the Union, Newton enlisted with the Confederacy. Both brothers survived the war and had children.

As happened in the old days, Edwin had a son and Newton had a daughter, and these COUSINS married! Their son is my grandpa, their grandson is my dad!

So yes, my great great grandfathers were brothers who fought on opposite sides of the American Civil War.

5. I led bus tours across the USA, Western Canada and a bit of Mexico.

@thedamus thought this was my lie. 😁

TRUE

After leading tours on boats, I moved up to buses! For two years I led tours of the USA, Western Canada and a bit of Mexico (Tijuana) with a company called Contiki Holidays. Back in the 1990’s going to Mexico on a bus tour was doable. Sorry @thedamus.

This is the best job I have ever had.
