Another random Temple find in Chiang Mai

in #temples5 years ago

This is just a continuation of "random cool stuff I find when riding my bicycle aimlessly in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I almost never have a particular destination in mind and have found some really interesting sights because of this. Chiang Mai is well-known for its high level of temples and even though you may find yourself in a neighborhood that is pretty far away from any heavily populated areas, you can occassionally encounter some really elaborate temples. This one is different from the others and since I know shockingly little about Buddhism, I can't really tell you what any of it means.

I'm riding my bike down a two lane road that is so small that when two cars encounter one-another they need to scoot over to the side in order to pass when I see this elaborate entrance to the grounds.

As usual, some level of dragon is on the gates and I'm a big fan of dragons, even when they aren't being magically shot out of the sky by Euron Greyjoy.

The interior was almost entirely painted red, and I didn't venture in further because I noticed a bunch of people in the distance all wearing black shirts. I don't know a lot about Buddhism, but since I have been to 2 of them, I know these people are there for a funeral and this would be really bad form for me to wander in during that. I stayed out of view, snapped some pictures, and then carried on.

I can't find this on any maps website out there but that is ok because I dont' recommend that anyone drive all the way out there for this place. I just think it is interesting that something this elaborate exists in a tiny little neighborhood that is mostly surrounded by rice paddies.

It would be interesting to know how many temples and chapels are in your city. I believe a lot, a surprisingly high number of temples. It's still good to see people going to church and being religious.
I love looking at these photos and reading your posts about temples as they are so different from what we have here.

I like the contrast from the red and gold colors of this temple. I like your temple blogs.

Always finding those hidden gems aren't you? You need to start making your own map. Or you can start selling your own tour guide. "Temples of Chiang Mai" by GoodDream!
