Muktinath Temple
Muktinath Temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Nepal. It is located in the Mustang District at an altitude of about 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) above sea level, near the Annapurna mountain range.
The temple is highly revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus believe that Lord Vishnu attained salvation at Muktinath, making it an important place for spiritual liberation (moksha). Buddhists regard it as a sacred place associated with Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava).
One of the temple's most famous features is the 108 stone water spouts, known as Muktidhara. Pilgrims walk through the icy water flowing from these spouts as a symbol of purification and the cleansing of sins. The temple also has two sacred ponds where devotees take ritual baths before offering prayers.
Another unique attraction is the eternal natural flame, called Jwala Mai, where fire burns continuously due to natural gas emissions. This rare phenomenon symbolizes the harmony of the earth's natural elements.
Muktinath Temple attracts thousands of visitors and pilgrims from Nepal, India, and around the world every year. The best times to visit are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is clear and pleasant.
