"Kamakhya" temple, on the Nilachal hill the famous pilgrimage situated at in Guwahati city in Assam, India. The Kamakhya temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother tantric goddesses Kamakhya. Apart from the deity Kamakhya Devi, compound of the temple houses 10 other avatars of Kali namely Dhumavati, Matangi, Bagolamukhi, Tara, Kamala, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Bhuvaneshwari and Tripuara-Sundari. Tripurasundari, Matangi and Kamala reside inside the main temple where as the other seven reside in individual temples. It is an important pilgrimage destination for general Hindu and especially for Tantric worshipers.

Visit to Kamakhya Temple was a great experience. like any other old religious places in India i expected. Temple of Portion resembles a Beehive.Sculptured Panels of Hindu Gods & Goddesses all around. One area full of Bronze Bells. Amazing and very Pretty Temple, with plenty of Secrets, & a lot of History.

Temple Being the centre for Tantric worship this temple attracts thousands of tantra devotees in an annual festival known as the Ambubachi Mela. Ambubachi mela or Ambubasi festival is an annual fair celebrated for four days in Kamakhya temple, Guwahati, Assam during the Assamese month of Aahar (mid-June). It is believed that the presiding deity of the temple Devi Kamakhya (a form of Shakti) goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this period. The temple is closed for three days during this period and the doors of the temple open on the fourth day when devotees throng in a long queue to get a glimpse of the goddess. There are thousands of people who come from all over India, especially West Bengal, Bihar and Assam to witness this festival and take blessings from the goddess in form of a small bit of cloth which is believe to be wet with the menstrual fluid of Goddess Kamakhya. Another annual celebration is the Manasha Puja. Durga Puja is also celebrated annually at Kamakhya during Navaratri in the autumn. This five-day festival attracts several thousand visitors.
