The Internet is today a fundamental tool for many users. It is essential for many companies and many people's daily lives. A means that serves to inform ourselves, be in contact with friends and family, learn, create, share. The range of possibilities we have is truly enormous. However, this has not always been the case, as we can imagine. The way we connect to the Internet today has nothing to do with how it was a few years ago. In this article, we are going to explain what Telnet is. Let's see how we can activate telnet in windows 10.

If we go back to the beginnings of the Internet, there we have to mention Telnet. It is a protocol that emerged in the late 1960s. Many consider it the first step to the Internet that we know today. But of course, the way it was accessed in those moments had nothing to do with how we connect now. You have to think that graphical operating systems like now (Windows, etc.) simply did not exist.

At the time when Telnet was used, there were no browsers. Neither graphical environments, as we have mentioned. You had to connect through the command line and in this way get to the information.

This protocol allowed users to remotely access a server and obtain data. It certainly helped enormously in building the Internet that we have today.

We have seen that Telnet was a protocol that emerged long before Windows 10. Even decades before we used Microsoft systems as we know them today. But yes, in 2019 we can still activate Telnet in Windows 10.

Logically its use is practically testimonial. Beyond lovers of networks and curious about computing who want to try it, at present, it has no use whatsoever. We are going to explain how we can activate it in Windows 10.

First, we have to go to Start and type Enable or disable Windows features. We open this tool.

A long list of features will appear that we can activate or not. The one we are interested in is Telnet. We simply have to look for it and activate its box.

At that point, an installation process will begin. Windows will start looking for everything you need to enable Telnet on your computer. This process takes a few seconds. There is no long wait. When I'm done we just close the window.

If we go to Start and type Telnet, this tool will appear available. We can open it. The command line will automatically open to start using this tool.

Telnet is practically not used today, as we have mentioned. It has been an indispensable option for decades but with little use today. However, it is still used to access a BBS, which was popular networking software in the 1980s and 1990s.

But specially it is used for educational purposes or simply as a curiosity. Lovers of networks and curious about computing can use it.

Keep in mind that security is not your strong suit. Everything we send through Telnet does not pass encryption and could be intercepted by any user. This has to be taken into consideration.
