There is so much depth to this story, in a way it’s a sweet tale, of a young girl who grows up under the shelter of her parents, protecting her from the worst of their own species, taking her somewhere she can grow and develop into her own person. On another level, there is a greater tale of sacrifice and conflict

What I love most is the bridge that is built between these two very similar species, they have been able to ignore their differences, finding that on a moral and emotional level they have a lot in common. The thought you have put into this is fantastic.

The connection between Thelyn and her family is a really emotive element, being able to sense each other, and tell when they’d gone. There is so much joy and sadness in this, it is just beautifully told. The way Ensen steps up when her mother passes away, the acceptance she finds with him is really touching. The aspect of her parents passing away, but still shaping her life, they aren’t there to guide her at the end, but they gave her the knowledge and tools she needed to make her own way. What greater gift can a parent give a child!

The trust she is able to place in her father, he may have given his life to keep her and her mother safe, but he was a good hearted man, and in the time he had with her, he raised a good hearted daughter. Her parents didn’t believe in the ways of their people, choosing peace and caring, knowing her race were planning to destroy all that she knew must have been a burden for her. It really comes together in saving other families, there is something about this that reminds me a little of the story of Lot and his family, in that Thelyn couldn’t save the world, she couldn’t stop the destruction inbound, but she saves all the good hearted people she can. I feel like the society her and Ensen created, and raised their son in, has the potential to be the best of people. This was such a pleasure to read <3
