Week five sees the semi-finals of the tag tournament, a Battle Royale and more menace from the monster

Our first match of the night sees Kip Sabian and Iestyn Rees, who we’ve not seen since the first episode, take on the team of Stevie Boy and BT Gun in the first semi-final. Upon their introduction Sabian takes the mic from ring announcer Phil Seymour, who Sabian keeps calling Bill to show the Seymour how he should be announcing the team. Handing the mic back Sabian again calls Seymour Bill, to which Seymour responds with ’Thanks Carl.

We also get a very British chant of ’Who are ya? directed at Sabian and Reese.

Before match two we get a ringside interview with Gabriel Kidd, who we’ve not seen since he was carried out on a stretcher in episode three following his match with Crater, claiming he’s not fully recovered, showing off a bandaged mid-section.

The second match sees a three-way between Kidd, Crater and Liam Slater. The match consists primarily of Kidd and Slater going at it in the ring while Crater looks menacingly from the outside, before entering the ring in the final minutes and cleaning house.

The second semi-finale of the night sees Adam ‘Flex’ Maxted and Nathan Cruz take on last week’s qualifying team of Grado and British Bulldog Jr.. With Grado working the ‘this generation’s Big Daddy’ angle, and getting the crowd to chant ‘Easy, Easy’, which for those not in the know was Daddy catchphrase.

We see the emerge of more future storylines here. Maxted and Cruz have up to this point had a bromance persona, slapping each other’s arse before they enter the ring, but here we see trouble in paradise. After Grado injures his knee Cruz has no qualm taking out his bad leg which Maxted takes issue with, when Bulldog also takes issue Cruz knocks him of the ring apron and shouts at Maxted to attack Bulldog. Again Maxted isn’t pleased, and when the match is over he even checks that Grado is ok before leaving the ring. Maybe Maxted isn’t the heel we have been led to believe.

Finally we have the all women Battle Royal promised after last weeks championship match ended in chaos. Champion Kay Lee Ray is joined by Viper, Bea Priestley, Ayesha in her first in ring appearance, and Kasey Owens in her first appearance full stop. Unfortunately the whole match feels a little flat, it’s hard to make a Battle Royale exciting with only five competitors where usually you’d have ten, fifteen, twenty, it’s also difficult to get behind two wrestlers we’ve not seen in action before, it would mean more if we’d seen Owens and Ayesha in competition previously.

But for all it’s flaws it is the second time the women have been the main event, suck on that Vince McMahon, and sees a possible rivalry brewing between Viper and Ayesha
