Most people cannot imagine that a seemingly irrelevant problem with their gums can cause tooth loss.It is the ‘receding gums’ that bothers dentists worldwide. As you are probably guessing, it is a dental issue in which tiny gaps develop between teeth and gums. Gums tend to withdraw, leaving a huge surface are of the teeth uncovered.

These gaps are usually filled with bacteria, which may eventually affect the roots, causing unbearable pain. Teeth get extremely sensitive. This initial stage leads to a further tooth loss, because bacterial infections cause permanent damage to both bone structure and supportive tissue.

COMMON SYMPTOMS

Receding gums is a rather common condition, but the issue is oftentimes neglected or treated improperly, mostly due to the fact that the recession develops quite slowly. Carefully check your teeth to see if there is any initial symptom. Prevention and proper treatment are always better than treating the issue once it reaches a lot severe stage. Here are some of the symptoms you should be aware of:

tooth ache
longer or larger looking teeth
higher sensitivity
CAUSES

What is the main cause of your receding gums? Pay attention to the following factors:

Aggressive brushing will not make your teeth any brighter or cleaner. Hard pressure on your teeth damages tooth enamel, and the only thing you will get at the end is receding gums. Yes, you may want to brush your teeth a little gentler.

Could it be your genes? If that is your case, you cannot do much to ease your situation, but general awareness will sure be of some help.

Periodontal diseases sometimes occur as a result of bacterial infections. These infections damage your gums and the bone that supports your teeth. This is a rather serious issue that will contribute to a severe tooth loss.

Do you fancy tongue or lip piercing? Having jewelry in your oral cavity causes certain rubbing against your gums, and lead to erosion.

Hormonal changes can really make a huge mess inside your body, including gum recession. Your gums get more sensitive and fragile than ever.

Ingesting tobacco increases the likelihood of plaque buildups on your teeth, which leads to receding gums. You saw this one coming, right?

Clenching and grinding adds additional pressure on your teeth. Stop doing this if you do not like to lose your teeth. If your upper and lower teeth do not meet you are likely to use more force than usual. If this is your case, do not be surprised if your gums recede.

Do not wonder where did all that tartar and plaque come from, especially if you do not flush or brush regularly. Tartar gets inbetween your teeth and pushes your gums up.

TREATMENT

Go to your dentist as soon as you see the tiniest gap between your teeth and gums. You will probably be scheduled for tooth scaling, a treatment which involves removing your tartar and plaque from the area between your teeth and beyond your gum line.

If your condition is more severe, your dentist may suggest that you do a gum surgery. You will have your soft tissue grafted. This will stimulate the regeneration of any lost tissue and bone. Some surgeries involve pocked depth reduction.

If you are lucky enough to deal with a less severe problem, consider trying alternative therapies and home remedies. In this way you may solve your problem without any additional effort or hospital hassle. When applied properly, these remedies can do miracles.

I've heard of that. Thanks for the comment.

You pasted some parts twice

That was weird. First I posted an article using a an app for steemit.

Thanks for letting me know!

I think I read somewhere that the treatment of cavities with Coconut oil is not always effective but the rest of this looks promising.

Yeah I believe you are right about that.

Makes for an alternative to mouthwash at the least.

Thanks for commenting.
