After using fraps and dxtory, I found out that my system supported shadowplay. Ever since, I've been able to edit (and upload) videos without waiting for the hours it takes a multi-gig file to be processed by my editor. Tiniest loss in quality, made up for by not frying my hard drive. Good writeup.
