The Clock of the Apocalypse is a metaphor of how close humanity is to destroying the planet. According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the clock was advanced half a minute this Thursday, the 25th, being now two minutes from 'midnight'.

"Rising nuclear risks and climatic hazards" are some of the reasons pointed out for this hit, with the nearest hour of the end of the world, the closest it has been since 1953, at the height of the Cold War.

"By 2017, world leaders have failed to respond effectively to the imminent threats of nuclear war and climate change, making the global security situation more dangerous than a year ago," it said in a statement.

The clock hands are moved by two committees: the Science and Security Panel and the Sponsors Panel, which includes 15 scientists awarded Nobel Prizes.

The symbolic clock was created in 1947 to draw attention to global crises that threaten human existence and has always addressed the nuclear issue, but since 2007, global warming concerns have also come to the fore.
