World energy is turning blue and green

in #technotec6 years ago

In the future, natural gas and renewable energy will play a dominant role in the global energy market. Oil and coal will go into the past.

The process of global energy transition, caused by a wide range of environmental and climatic problems, is gradually starting. The intensive development of “green” technologies in the energy sector every day leads this initially unfriendly industry to full decarbonization. This can happen by the middle of the XXI century, provided the preservation and even increase of investment in renewable energy sector.

According to the analytical Agency IRENA, annual investments in renewable energy in the amount of up to 1 trillion dollars will allow to increase the part of renewable energy in the world energy balance from today’s 9 to 16 percent by 2030, creating about 10 million new jobs.
Such indicators will be achieved by both extensive and intensive development. The cost of “green” energy will be reduced from year to year, which in turn will reduce consumer interest in traditional energy based on the coal and oil by economic mechanisms. Only natural gas, of all fossil fuel sources, is the most environmentally friendly of all hydrocarbons and will be able to maintain and even expand its usage.

For reference: since 2010, the cost of generating of 1 kilowatt of solar energy has fallen by 73 percent, and the wind energy by 22. In addition, in 2017, for the first time in history, the volume of putting into operation new “green” capacities exceeded the volume of newly started traditional generation.
