Amazon have the go ahead to test drones in the UK after rules are lifted

in #technology8 years ago (edited)

Amazon has been given permission be test drones in the United Kingdom from The Civil Aviation Authority. The permissions will allow Amazon employees to control drone without being in direct line of sight.

It has also allowed the use of Amazon new sense and avoid technology which will enable their drones to automatically avoid obstacles while in the air. The plan for amazon is to have a fleet of drones that will be able to deliver small packages to shoppers within 30 minutes. Interesting right?

The drone will have a range of up to 10 miles and be able to fly at an altitude of 400 feet. The maximum amount it will be able to carry will be 2.2kg. Tim Johnson of the CCA’s head of policy stated that -

“These tests by Amazon will help inform our policy and future approach.”

I am really excited by this! We are going to have to hope all goes well..

Who knows? If it all flops we might get to watch some awesome drone crashes!
