RE: The Future Of Bionic Augmentations And How They Are Set To Actualized The Hybridization Of Machines And Humankind
Marvelous to consider nascent technology. Hubris to do so absent reckoning the limitations of our present understanding. Only a couple decades ago genes were considered the immutable blueprints for our fabrication, and today epigenetics has shown that we adaptively express genes dependent on environment, and perhaps even mere preference.
Little illustrates the rude grasp of biology we presently possess better than psychiatry. While the advances in understanding the human mind continue, most psychiatric drugs are prescribed with little more than a general sense that they might be of benefit, and most people prescribed them are shuffled off them and onto new ones all too regularly as the sought benefits remain elusive, and undesirable side effects become unbearable.
Prescribing for psychiatric conditions reminds me of a cave man trying to repair a balky drive train by hitting it with a club. Each blow changes the geometry of the drive train slightly, and the repairman guesses where to hit next, and when he has gained the best geometry possible to him and shouldn't hit it anymore.
Only last year it was discovered that the interstitium was a major human organ, because the general practice of taking tissue samples and mounting them on slides allowed the collagen structures of the interstitium to collapse, concealing it's actual geometry and even it's very existence.
For folks to rush out and replace their eyes so they can gain increased spectrum would be horribly premature, as we grasp so little of the interdependent and subtle workings of our senses and organs in toto, groups, and individually.
I don't consider extant technology the end game. The monstrous Borg are not where humanity is headed. That is but a fevered nightmare only possible due to our present ignorance, and the crude nature of our technology. In time, the superlative biological restructuring of not only our bodies and minds, but our environment as a whole, will enable synchrony between ourselves and our world - whatever world we may be found on.
This is not that time, and the crude mechanical augmentations presently available will be shown to be no more advanced than the steam engine. Such miracles as we cannot imagine await in the future, and not some distant age, but sooner than we expect, as technology increases at an exponential pace, rather than linear.
Thanks!
Wow! This comment is almost as long as my post :D
I quite agree with you that technology is advancing in an exponential rate; rather than a linear rate.
Many things we didn't think were possible in the past, have now found cheap possibilities in this era. Imagine how the future would look like
